Q: Canon LPB 3010 not working

Hi,

Yesterday I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion. All went well but now my printer doesn't function. I think that's because the printer driver that was compatible with Snow Leopard is not compatible with Lion. So...do you know how to solve my problem? Is there a way to solve it even without the official Canon drivers? Is there anyone else who has the same printer as mine and can help me to find a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Try reselecting your printer. Open System Preferences, click on Print & Fax, click on your printer in the Printer List and then the 'minus' sign to remove it.  Then click the + sign and add it back in again.  See if that helps.  Also, try shutting down and disconnecting the printer from the Mac, then reconnect it and power it on and see if you are prompted with new drivers.  Hope that helps.

The LBP3010 uses the Canon proprietary CAPT driver. There will be a new version of this driver being released, v3.36, to support Lion. However the service information from Canon does not list this model as being supported by the new driver. So if the steps suggested by Philip does not help then you should contact your local Canon support and see if they can confirm the availability of a driver to support OS X 10.7.

And FYI - this printer only supports the CAPT protocol. There is no support for PCL or PS with this machine so you will need to obtain a CAPT driver that supports Lion.

    Thank you for your reply!

I've already tried to remove the printer from the printer list but I've not been able to re-add it! In fact the instructions of the driver tell me to open "Printer Utility" (or something like that) from Applications>Utilities, but in Lion there isn't. I've tried to add the printer from the system prefs but I can't find the button "more printers" that, according to the driver instructions, I have to clic after hitting the "+" button.

I've already sent an email to Canon Support....I hope that my printer will be supported by the new driver!

As you have mentioned, to add this printer via USB you need to click the More Printers button and then select "Canon CAPT (USB)". With Snow Leopard, the More Printers would take quite a while to appear, and would only appear after installing the CAPT driver.

So if you upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6, then the 10.6 CAPT driver may have an issue. You could try running the 10.6 CAPT driver installer again on 10.7 to see if that gets the More Printers button to appear again. But without actually knowing the answer I think that to get the More Printers button back you may need a Lion compatible driver.

I think that the 10.6 CAPT driver is not compatible because even after reinstalling it, the "more printers" button doesn't appear! However, where did you gather the infos about the new driver? I can't find any info about Lion compatibility on the Canon website!

I'm having the same issue with my Canon LPB 3100. I tried reinstalling the CAPT driver and still cannot print or reinstall the driver. I found some info about this here: http://www.canon.com.au/en-au/Support-Services/Support-News/Lion-Support#lfp

At the moment, nothing seems to work for my LBP 3010. Hopefully, Canon will update the drivers for this model soon...

Can you let me know if you manage to get it to work? I have exactly the same problem here, with exactly the same printer.

    Thx in advance.

Sure! But I think that the only way to make it work is downloading the updated driver (if Canon releases it....and I hope so)!! Naturally, let me know if you have any news about the problem in the future!

Another thing: I think that we should all send an email to Canon about the problem we are experiencing, so that they release the new driver as soon as possible! I've already sent my message through the Canon Support webpage (I cannot paste the link because it's different for each region)!
