iMac 2011 - no wifi connection after sleep under Lion

since i am using osx lion, my iMac is disconnected from my wireless network after sleep. (27 inch mid 2011, i5 with 2tb and ssd) (it states, that none of my preferred connections are available). sometimes it is connected ... but internet just won`t work.

besides that wifi is working just perfectly ... no drops no instability!

i am using airport extreme with 5ghz n-network, router is about 10 meters away (full signal).

under snow leopard i didnt experience any problems ... but since lion (which i am using since GM release) its really annoying because after every sleep i need to deactivate wifi and reactivate to connect.

i tried smc and pram reset ... changed my 5ghz settings to channel 36, deleted all other networks, did a reinstall (fresh!!) ... nothing helped 😟

this is NOT an airport station issue ... my other macs and iPhone are connected just fine.

please, this is VERY annoying .... if you have any hints i would be very grateful!

with kind regards,

felix

Well I spoke to soon. The CSR palmed me off to another department. We ended to conversation at a working solution and I found out there was nothing of the sort. I am back at the same situation 3 telephone hours later as I was before where tech support wants my support. Dissappointed at the active misinfomation provided and overall difficulty with Apple to get support not only for this problem but with the other components. Too expensive to own, even for them.

I too have the same issue - 2011 IMac - constantly dropping wifi signals. I was excited when I saw the wifi update a few days ago from Apple, but since then, the problem has seemed to have gotten worse. This is what I tried 30 minutes ago - and (knock on wood) so far it's been working. This might not apply to everyone, but I use Airport Express as my router - so that might be part of my issue. I opened Airport Utility directly and through that application, updated the firmware for my Airport Express. It took about 5 minutes to update, and so far so good. Hope this helps some of you with the issue.

Spoke too soon on the software update fix. After a few days the problem re-appeared.It is an on again/off again thing. If I close AOL and Mail before the computer goes to sleep the wireless reconnects seamlessly when reawakened, and upon reopening the programs are all butterflies and rainbows. However this is not a fix, sometimes inadvertantly the computer goes to sleep with these programs still open and the problem is the same as before. Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences on this forum....I am grateful for the shared experiences and due to the apparent volume of complaints have faith this will be fixed in time.

I have a 2011 iMac i7 with 8 GB memory and upgrades, running 10.7.3. I've been having the same issues. Today, I disconnected my wireless trackpad, and all is good. My, mouse, which is cordless via a USB connector does not seem to interfere, but the wireless trackpad did.

Good luck. I'll let you know if I have further issues, but the difference with just this one change is extremely promising.

The Apple Senior Tier 2 tech support best summed it up stating if your iMac has problem there is no fix and Apple will do nothing to remedy it. They are trying but in the end you hold the short end of this stick.

You should just open terminal up and ping your router and make sure your computer never sleeps.

This my last Apple computer, I think the reliability is subpar when you factor the lack of actual support.

Techs can not give you anything and are advised to tell you that. You must insist on talking to a customer service rep. You must INSIST on them solving this issue for you. You also might have to go through every single step their engineers suggest.

Clear out a couple hours of your time and again: be sensible, be patient, and be VERY stubborn. Utilize things I said in my previous posts.

I hope you all find a fix soon or are provided with one from Apple.

Workaround?

1. Use Airport extreme. (ONLY) Re-purpose all the Linksys and Netgear stuff to unsuspecting relatives. .

2, Set screen saver to NEVER.

3. Set screen to darken after 10 min.

4. Set sleep to NEVER.

5. Set turn off hard disk when able.

6. Leave it on. My iMac has been on for the past 4 months.

No problems with Lion. Easily wakes using Back to my Mac.

Easily shares with my MacBook.

You may not like this, but the pain goes away.
