Can't turn on FileVault on Lion after clean install

I just installed Mac OS X 10.7 Lion on my Macbook. I had to do a clean install (because Lion broke my admin account >:().

Now, after the clean install, I can’t turn on FileVault. The computer will restart, after some seconds of grey screen restart a 2nd time and then… FileVault will still be turned off.

I have no idea what I can do.

I already reinstalled the system, reset PRAM, checked filesystem, checked (and repaired) file permissions. All to no avail.

The same problem here: Also did a clean install of MacOS X 10.7 Lion and enabled FileVault, restarted and got a gray screen with a mouse cursor. MacBook reboots automatically after a few seconds and the normal desktop comes up but FileVault is still disabled (also there was no "early" login).

Clean install is done by booting from DVD and formating the drive with 1 Partition (tried case sensitive and case insensitive). Recovery partition is created properly (pressing ALT at startup brings it up and can also boot from it). Are there any Log-files we can inspect to identifiy the problem? Are there any other limitations for using FileVault2 (e.g. amount of RAM, processor features etc.)?

Having no encryption is a showstopper for me.

Identical issue with my macpro. Filevault eorks fine on a macbook air 2010. I wonder if i should reformat the boot disk as encrypted and reinstall?

I tried that already. The installation of Lion runs through until the next reboot. However it seems that EFI can't boot from encrypted disks like that. I just saw a white questionsmark on a gray screen. Probably that is why the requirement of FileVault2 is the recovery partition. I could imagine that EFI needs to boot first something from the unencrypted partition to setup the filesystem layer for encryption and that this needs further configuration (created by the FileVault preference pane).

Kernel-log says something about invalid checksum and unsupported formats. The hardisk is a third-party 750GB Western Digital disk (SMART status prooved), which was used with Linux and Windows before. However the hdd was reformatted multiple times using MacOS Snow Leopard and Lion and the diskutil shows a proper GUID scheme. Some ideas?

Can't turn on FileVault on Lion after clean install
