How do I disable "reopen windows when logging back in"

This is not the resume facility ... I have turned that off in the general preferences.

This is the message that requires a tick every time I shutdown. How can I change the default?

I do not want loads of apps to load everytime I start. I do not want to have to keep saying this everytime I shutdown. I do want the option to set it to off once and for al!

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I've noticed that if you set Safari General Preferences for "New Windows Open With..." and "Homepage" with values other than, "Empty Page".. And if you set Safari Tabs Settings to "Never" followed by two check boxes, then these settings override the faulty "Reopen windows when logging back in" flag in the Shutdown, Restart, and Log Off options in the apple menu.

One more voice for this one!!! I hate the fact we have less control over our systems!

I'm not sure how you got that to work but It didn't work for me also I really like the cmd-click feature for a new tab. What I did notice was it no longer reopens the last web page. THANK JOBS for that!

I think I've found the quickest workaround for this. Have a bunch of programs open and goto Logout. When you logout, make sure you uncheck the "Reopen windows when logging back in" and Logout.

Next time you come back, feel free to open as many windows as you like but this time when you logout choose the Shift + Option + Command + Q key command to logout. You'll notice you won't get a window popping up asking you to uncheck because this Forces a Logout.

Because this Forces a Logout - the System Defaults back to the way you logged out the way before.

So just keep doing this key command option and for now it's a quick fix.

So far it's worked for me. Obviously if you forget to do this and you do a normal logout and forget to uncheck checkmark, you have to do this process all over again. Just remember the Key command option will default back to the previous last Logout.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you get a different result.

I know, it's infuriating when your machine refuses to obey you! I think this little button is emblematic of Lion's new direction. You can try to command it over and over and over and over and over again but it will continue to ignore you on it's next iteration. No matter what you do or say, it's going to give you what it knows is best for you.

Distasteful at best. Not quite as annoying and frustrating as Auto Slave, err, Auto Save, but still, it's infuriating on so many levels.

I really dislike it when my machine refuses to obey me. It's why left Windows! Argh!!!!
