I can't download Lion from App Store - says an error has occured. Have rebooted and contacted Apple support. Can anybody help?

Every time I try to download Lion, the download, the download appears to start, but then stops, saying an error has occured, with nothing downloaded, and the App icon disappears from the dock.

Has anybody else experienced similar?

I am having the same problem. From what I have gathered from talking with apple care and reading the forums, it is two things. The first is a problem on apple's side with a bug/server demand. The second has something to do with internet connection. For now if you have tried all of the little tricks that are on the other posts nothing you can do but wait.

Spoke to Apple this morning. If you have a 2 wire BT Business Hub Router you are buggered!

Also they are working on their servers as they know there is a problem with the demand.

I'm off to the Apple shop armed with a jump drive and an appointment for them to download it for me.

I really didn't feel like carting a 27inch iMac into the store!

Hope this helps!!!!!

same problem and precisely with the OS X lion up to date program.

I called apple but they said there's nothing they can do for now. there are many problems they are trying to resolve and one of them is the up to date program.

the only solution available they said is to wait. but they didn't specify for how long.

One would think that they'd test their solution well when they took the decision to make the OS available only though the appstore or at least offer a back up solution should people be unable to obtain it like it is the case for us.

From what I understand on your statement is as if

Lion / Request for redeption code / Serial number eligiblity Up to date/ are all under one server. I dont think this is case, hence its important to isolate the issue. Your issue maybe different from download Lion from the appstore

thats why I recommended workarounds, to check whether it has something to do with the network/isp/router

well, i'm using the first generation airport extreme 802.11n.

when speaking with apple support over the phone, they told me that the problem of obtaining a redeption code is linked to the download problem. apparently, this process amend a valid order to my applestore account which will be used later to obtain my copy off the AppStore.

I have tried with various browsers and even connected with VPN to different locations. Even tried it on a different mac.

I have asked if apple could provide me with a code over the phone that'll help me obtain my free copy on the AppStore and they said they do not have this option available.

It's terribly frustrating when even support cannot help you and all they offer are apologies which won't help me at all.

Jul 22, 2011 7:24 AM in response to Boeing777

sure. This can really be frustrating but your issue is different from the OP you see. The OP's problem was he already purchased Lion from Appstore, its just the download does not complete

Yours is getting the redemption code to avail Lion. These are two different issues hence resolutions would be different

What did apple support tell you?wait?I dont think they will leave you in a dead end. Did you just purchase a new machine? If so, where?is it from the Apple Online store?

yes Apple asked me to wait but they didn't specify for how long.

yes my mbp is just a month old and even though i have submitted a redemption code request with proof of purchase through a different path with apple but haven't heard back from them.

Apple support has mentioned that even if I paid for the app, i wouldn't be able to download it. that's why i've been told by apple that these two problems are related.

I'm not doubting your assumptions that these are different issues, but i'm only reporting what apple told me.

The sad thing is that no alternative was made not even a gesture to book an appointment with my closest apple store to have a copy made on a disk for me. Instead it's just a wait and sorry i'm getting
