Can't open network share

I've just upgraded to Lion and now it seems I can't connect to my NAS. I hit ⌘-K then in the server address I type in

smb://files
, as I would usually do. It thinks for a bit, then shows up in Finder with a red dot next to it.

Trying to open it gives the error:

The folder "Volume_4" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents

I can view the files in Terminal without problem though!

Als-MacBook-Pro:Volume_4 al$ ls -lAeO@ /Volumes/Volume_4/
total 200
-rwx-wx-wx 1 al staff arch 15364 3 Apr 16:47 .DS_Store
drwxrwxrwx@ 3 al staff - 16384 25 Oct 2009 .TemporaryItems
com.apple.FinderInfo 32
d--------- 5 al staff - 16384 24 Dec 2009 .Trash-999
-rwxrwxrwx 1 al staff hidden 4096 25 Oct 2009 ._.TemporaryItems
d--------- 2 al staff - 16384 13 Oct 2000 .systemfile
drwxrwxrwx 20 al staff - 16384 22 Jul 2010 files
drwxrwxrwx 5 al staff - 16384 16 Sep 2010 multimedia

I can also view and edit files from there.

Why can't I browse with Finder?

I got this from another thread, im sorry I dont have the thread ID and link

but see if the link below info helps

---------------

It seems that apple deleted DHCAST128 in Osx lion 10.7

Because they say it's nit secure enough,

Seems that most nas systems use this.

This is how to put it back: ( disables time machine function on nas )

Open Terminal

sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1

reboot your Mac

Connect to the nas so it can make a profil

Open Terminal

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array “Cleartxt Passwrd” “MS2.0″ “2-Way Randnum exchange”

sudo chmod o-w /Library/Preferences

Reboot you Mac again

Now it should work

To turn it off again: ( default on lion)

Open terminal

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_disabled_uams -array-add “DHCAST128″

I am seeing this issue when mounting a share from a Windows 2008 R2 server as a user with normal privileges. I am able to see everything in Finder when I authenticate with an Active Directory administrator account. So the volume is mounted (visible from Terminal), but Finder won't show it. One thing I noticed is that the .DS_Store file is not visible under Terminal (ls -la) when I authenticate as a user with normal privileges but is visible when I authenticate as an administrator. I am wondering if that is part of the problem.

Sadly, this one doesn't help me.

I'm using an OpenIndiana NAS server, I'm still having this problem 😟

EDIT: Here's a link to a guy who's documented part of the problem. There's a fix here for AFP shares having the same sort of bug, but no fix for SMB shares: http://frankleng.me/2011/07/21/connect-to-a-freenas-samba-or-afp-share-on-lion-w orkaround/

Also, I can access the network shares even via programs like Transmit, Finder is the only application that has a problem with it (sadly, it's also the most used!)

Encountered the same problem with an icybox NAS (IB-NAS4220-B). I can pick a share to connect to through Command-K but then I get the error. Once the box shows up in Finder however I actually can connect to any share and see files and folders inside. Files I can open, Folders I can't with the message that I lack the access rights (folders do have a red dot in their icons).

No problem with Terminal though. NFS doesn't work also. Bad Lion...

For those of you trying to access SMB shares, I found a free and easy solution.

Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.

I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.

I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.

Hope it helps you all.

This doesn't change anything for me, infact, I can't even get to the folder to change it to list view (plus I have all the defaults and everything set so it never shows me Column View).

@Marcus: The issue appears to be with Lion's new SMB client, it doesn't like older SMB servers such as the ones included with OpenIndiana/many other devices using SMB.

The fix for it should be relatively easy, since it's clear that everything works fine with the exception of Finder not allowing access to the folder.
