MS Office for Mac not working on OSX Lion?

Hi everyone, I just installed the new OSX Lion onto my iMac. Everything seems to be working fine except for my Microsoft Office for Mac v. X (which includes MS Entourage Mail, MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint). When I clicked on the icon to open the program, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application Microsoft Entourage because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." So does it mean I have to upgrade my MS Office too? Anyone has any idea? Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, I didn't read all of these posts before upgrading to Lion...I have used MS Office for Mac 2004 for many years, and use Entourage for my email. I now see that I need to upgrade to MS Office for Mac 2011 - however I have heard good things about Lions new version of "Mail". Does anyone know if it is possible to import my old Entourage emails & folders into the new Lion Mail? Also how do I import my address book from Entourage into Lion's address book?

Once you upgrade to Lion, no, you can't import from Entourage since the app needs to run. However I did read on here that at least one person had success using thetrial version of Office for Mac 2011 to transfer their mail, contacts and calendar out of Outlook 2011 to Mail, Address Book and iCal. As always, have a current backup of your user data before doing anything of this nature, as things do sometimes go wrong.

Yep, I did a Time Machine Backup before upgrading to Lion. I saw somehwere else (unfortunately after the fact) that the recomendation for MS Office for Mac is to upgrade to 2011 BEFORE you upgrade your Mac OS to Lion. What I'm wondering is how can I uninstall my older 2004 Office for Mac & install the new 2011 version after I've already installed Lion?

OK...got it. Here's another question.thought....is it possible for me to go back to the last image of all files (via Time Machine) and restore my computer back to that point - then export all of my emails, folders, addresses from my old Entourage 2004 in Mail & Address Book - THEN - UNINSTALL the 2004 MS Office for Mac - THEN re-install Lion - import my emails, folders, & addresses into the new wonderful Lion versions of Mail & Address book - and finally purchase/download the new MS Office 2011 for ac to use for Word, Excel & Power Point?

Besides being a pain in the ***, it might be my only way to purge my Mac of the old, useless 2004 MS Office, as well as import my emails & folders into the new Lion Mail.

Your thoughts.....?

If you're asking whether you could use a Time Machine backup to go back to Snow Leopard, if you have a bootable full backup of Snow Leopard available I believe the answer is yes. Before I went that route, though, I would try the trial version of Office 2011 to see if you can't extract what you need using that on Lion. If you're lucky the Office 2011 install will remove the remnants of Office 2004. Even if it doesn't, though, they're unlikely to cause any problems other than wasting a bit of space, because as PPC apps they won't do anything in Lion. You could remove them by hand, since again, as PPC apps by definition nothing can depend on them.

Were you able to get the Office 2011 finally installed? I installed mine on my MBP & iMac. The iMac now has Lion on it & so far so good. The only issue I have is that there is no scroll bar in Word (haven't tried the others). I can work around it tho. My hubby has installed Lion on his iMac & is now installing Office 2011. I hope he doesn't have the same problem as you did. Everyone at the Apple Store said to install after Lion. However, Microsoft said to install it first. Hmmm.😕
