MS Office for Mac not working on OSX Lion?

Hi everyone, I just installed the new OSX Lion onto my iMac. Everything seems to be working fine except for my Microsoft Office for Mac v. X (which includes MS Entourage Mail, MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint). When I clicked on the icon to open the program, it gives me this message: "You can't open the application Microsoft Entourage because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." So does it mean I have to upgrade my MS Office too? Anyone has any idea? Thanks so much!

Few of these posts doing the rounds.

Lion does not support Power PC programs as it no longer has the Rosetta engine built in to translate . This includes your version of Office, Office 2004 and the install program on Office 2008.

So in your case it's time to upgrade your Office to Office 2011 i'm afraid.

It work for me flawlessly. Office 2011 and 2008 both work on Lion. There must be something wrong with your install. Try reinstall Office would help. This has been done on my friend's macbook pro an hour ago

After reading all this, I am NOT "upgrading to LION" ridiculous...I'm not buying new Office when my Office 2008 works perfectly fine.

The starer has "Office for Mac v. X" that a Version 10 Years ago. So when you habe Office 2008 or 2011 it should work without a problem.

apps based on Power Mac is no longer supported by Lion. so you have to upgrade your office to 2011, which works well on Lion

Your Office 2008 will still work fine in Lion. It is versions prior to that which will not run.

I stand corrected on Office 2008 but...I'm still relaxing with Snow Leopard until end of year/next year before I "upgrade."

Upgrade to 2011. You won't regret it. At last, MS have produced a version of Office that is good on Mac. At last Entourage is gone, and we have Outlook.

Oh bye bye to Outlook for me, Apple Mail 5 in Lion is the best email client I've ever used on any platform.

I agree. I stopped using Outlook as the 'new' Mail was so good. I still use the rest of the Office suite though.

If 2008 works, I'd wait on upgrading to 2011 as it is not fully 64-bit yet parts of it are but not completely. I think that the next office release will be 100% coco and fully 64-bit.
