Jul 21, 2011 2:34 PM in response to simonbarberby henrycsbc,I have been doing some research and I think it is something to do with having too many films/files that need a preview/thumbnail in one folder. This is something to do with the fact that in OS X Lion they have changed the way Quicktime works - apparently it works in a separate client? I am no tech head, just repeating what I've heard. There is another forum where someone has the problem where the VTDecoderXPCService is taking up 30% of an 8Gb Ram Module with no apps open.
Anyone know how to solve the problem? I'm stuck.

Jul 21, 2011 11:36 PM in response to henrycsbcby simonbarber,That would certainly tally with my experience, as the error appears whenever I navigate to a folder full of video files. Surely others must be affected by this if it has been introduced by Lion?
Would love a fix from any of the smart folks out there.

Jul 22, 2011 4:55 AM in response to henrycsbcby Fatcoach,I've found that by setting the view option of the folder (in Documents) to list rather than GRID, that the problem goes away. This would seem to tally with your idea that its a disply issue.

Jul 22, 2011 2:21 PM in response to Fatcoachby simonbarber,I haven't found that to work, I still get the error popping up consistently, especially in any folder containing video files. This really needs to be addressed. I've never seen anything like it on a Mac OS before.

Jul 24, 2011 5:12 AM in response to simonbarberby simonbarber,Still plagued by this error popping up every time I get into the Finder. Are we really the only ones experiencing this problem since upgrading to Lion?

Jul 24, 2011 4:48 PM in response to simonbarberby jbeckwit,Still getting it here as well - I've tried closing everything (except, of couse, Finder) and I still get it. Seems like there are times when I get it more often, but I can't pin down exactly when that is??
Hopefully Apple will get a fix out soon....

Jul 24, 2011 10:33 PM in response to jbeckwitby simonbarber,I hope so. I too sometimes receive the pop up error messages more frequently, but can't really pin down when. It certainly seems that the problem is linked to navigating thumbnails in Finder.
Is there somewhere that we should report this officially?

Jul 25, 2011 7:37 AM in response to simonbarberby jbeckwit,Theoretically – the popup IS reporting the problem to Apple….

VTDecoderXPCService is the render process of QuickTime (source Ars Technia Lion Review)
I haven't get the crash pattern yet, I'll take carefuly next time this crashes.

Aug 1, 2011 5:47 AM in response to imd23by Vermyndax,I am getting this crash when I try to sync my iPad with iTunes on Lion.

Aug 4, 2011 2:25 PM in response to henrycsbcby dinofromvancouver,I'm in the same boat. Can't pin down the issue either. But it always happens when I'm moving through finder. Sometimes it keeps popping up when I just have a finder window open, other times it just pops up once, but always linked to a finder window being open. Very frustrating and yes, since upgrading to Lion.

Aug 14, 2011 4:57 PM in response to henrycsbcby 4ll3N,Same here, started happening promptly after upgrade to lion, and happens all the time. I've not been able to get it to stop, clicking re-open can make it worse. Any new info is appreciated.
