Keyboard light MacBook pro, Lion

yes, there seems to be a keyboard problem in lion. So you don't see this screen:

Even with this screen, there is no way to TURN OFF the keyboard backlight, which on an older MBP just makes it harder to see the keys in the daytime.

I guess this will be a 10.7.1 fix, hopefully.

Yes, that's saying that Lion is not reading your hardware correctly. What model MBP do you have...a new one? Crazy crazy eh?

My friend is having the same issue. We both downloaded Lion but his backlight is not working. He can only see the top part of the Keyboard preference screen while I have the option to automatically illuminate the keyboard in low light. Is there anything that can be done before an official Lion update?

Similar problem here except that I can see the keyboard preferences screen exactly as it is above and no configuration will make the backlight turn on in the dark anymore.😐

does your keyboard have up/down illumination keys?

Same problem here, keyboard backlight won't come on on MacBook Pro. Prefrences screen shows up OK, and when I press the F5 or F6 key the status is shown on the screen (same as with the volume keys).

(Also the option to pair an IR Remote with te MacBook Pro seems to have gone...)

I have the same problem - the keyboard backlight doesn't work at all, and I only see the top half of the keyboard preferences screen shown above. Pressing F5 or F6 has no effect, and does not display the increase or decrease brightness icon overlay on the screen. I'm new to Apple support in general, should I report my experience (or add to an existing report) somewhere with my system details? If so, can someone point me in the right direction, please?

I have this problem since Lion.

MBP "silver keyboard one".. ( that the Apple Store called "old school").

have u tried jamming on the up down illumination keys? after doing this a few times, my keyboard light finally settled down, and now stays off when I want it off and on when I want it on, using the keyboard illum keys.

My keyboard lighting works as before. That is, it works well. I can see and use the keyboard dialogue box and I can use the function keys.

I have the same issue. No backlight after Lion upgrade. F5 and 6 keys do nothing and keyboard pref for illumination is missing in sys prefs. Called Apple. They had me reset SMC, re-install Lion, and do a clean install of Lion. None of which worked. I only have a few days left on my warranty so I'm taking it to a 'Genius' to rule out a hardware issue (pretty sure it's a Lion bug that needs an update).

I found that the LabTick utility allowed me turn my keyboard backlight on in Lion.

This isn't a solution, but at least it allowed me to work in low light again. I hope this helps someone else.
