Wake From Display Sleep With Trackpad Broken

Prior to OS X 10.7, after the system entered display sleep, but not sleep, you could wipe the trackpad to wake the display. In OS X 10.7, that doesn't work anymore when running on battery.

It looks definitely like a bug to me, I have narrowed the issue down as follows:

- It only affects "display sleep" which is usually set to a much shorter period than system sleep

- It only happens when running on battery

Intentional or bug? Is it just me?

Described as above it seems minor, but this is what I do about 10 times per day when I am sitting in various locations using my MacBook Pro. Display sleep is set aggressively low to save battery when I am not using the machine... I have it at 3 Minutes. Swiping the trackpad is an almost thoughtless quick way to wake the display again...

@Nikolaus:

Agree; it is only a temporary solution for me.

After closing the lid or restarting the trackpad did NOT activate the scren.

This is annoying!! Even googling/binging brings no solution; only users with same problem and it seems to be a feature :-o

Weird, that this is not communicated at some place!

Hi Nikolaus

I have the same issue. Having got myself in the habit of a quick swipe across the Magic Trackpad to reawaken my external 27" display from display sleep, this bug is very annoying. It happens for me when connected to AC power, so the problem is not restricted to running off battery power.

I shall report this as (another) Lion bug here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Please feel free to add your own complaint, too - the more the merrier 😉

I also find this change extremely frustrating. It's suddenly like using Windows, where I must press Return to awaken the display. I used the report link listed, but the only option seems to be reporting issues with 10.6.7 and 10.6.8, not 10.7. Thus far I'm surprisingly pretty disappointed with most of the changes. This is certainly a major one.

Sigh.

Oh well. On the plus side, before Lion my iMac would occassionally refuse to go to display sleep at all - if I explicitly slept it, it would wake up a second after going dark. Now that the Magic Trackpad doesn't wake the iMac in response to a swipe, the iMac is at least going to sleep and staying asleep consistently.

Win some, lose some. I'd rather they just fix it once and for all.
