Feb 2, 2012 3:06 PM in response to jmarchalonisby 2rodee,Looks like I have to have SL installed in order to get the Mac Store..
I looked at iTunes/Apps and it isn't there.. but there may be something similar. I'll have a look around. Seems I had something that recorded temperatures before (..maybe on dashboard..?) If you think of something else - just let me know..
I agree with you on the RAM.. just trying anything.

Feb 2, 2012 3:26 PM in response to 2rodeeby jmarchalonis,Try iStat, it has since became a paid application, but it did have a freware dashboad widget.... actually, here is a link below... It should be able to tell you temps and fan speeds, in addition to the others.

Thank you

Feb 2, 2012 4:49 PM in response to Gandalf The Greyby Ben Friedman1,It sounds like a good Mac especially with i7dual core and the 16GB Ram as well as the SSD drive. It must be very fast!

Feb 2, 2012 5:03 PM in response to 2rodeeby jmarchalonis,@2rodee I wish i had a similar system to do the test on, but i will be using a MacBook Pro Late 2008, 2.53 Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB Ram, Gefore 9400M 256MB, running Lion 10.7.2. The CPU are similar which is good.
HD 33
CPU 68
CPU HEATSINK 59
GPU 55
GPU HEATSINK 50
GPU HEATSINK 2 63
MEMECONTROLLER 52
NORTHBRIDGE 61
RIGHT FAN 2000RPM
LEFT FAN 2000RPM
----------
Now looking at your tempatures, i would say the Hard Drive is running pretty hot; what are you runing while doing this test? I have like 15 applications open, so mine is not the true values at rest. Also why is the Airport card so hot? 70s seems normal if you are using it to say stream music or search on safari but at rest it should be much lower. Is it being used, or at rest when you took that?... I will wait to see your Snow Lepoard results...

Feb 2, 2012 8:14 PM in response to jmarchalonisby 2rodee,ok.. I'm on my MB Pro.. Just now rebooting the iMac into Snow Leopard clone.
Downloaded the istat.... took the readings.
WAS NOW
HD 51 40
CPU 50 41
AIRPORT CARD 71 63
AMBIENT 26 25
GPU 56 48
GPU DIODE 59 51
GPU HEATSINK 56 48
HD BAY 51 39
Went to the toolbar at bottom to open Applications, they opened and FREEZE!!! I'll have to reboot with disk warrior. What a mess.. Only 3 minutes into the dang thing.
Oh GREAT! There is already a disk in the drive, I tried the eject button and the curser turned into the infamous beach ball. Hard reset to see if I can get the cd ejected before a freeze..

Feb 2, 2012 9:02 PM in response to 2rodeeby jmarchalonis,The numbers look promising but the freeze doesn't. When you say freezing, does the cursor still move or is everything frozen? If the cusor moves, it's just finder freezing which is similar to the Lion issue.
Also, did you restore it onto the Macintosh HD or are you running off external? One other thing is, if you installed to Macintosh HD, did you use carbon copy to restore or Disk Utility?
There should be away to get the disc out if slot loaded. I had that issue once and turned the iMac on it's side and it felt out. There should also be a EFI boot command to eject it.
-
Feb 2, 2012 9:07 PM in response to 2rodeeby jmarchalonis, try holding down either c or option on start and then boot up and hit eject; you should have a problem getting the disc out.

Feb 2, 2012 9:33 PM in response to jmarchalonisby 2rodee,I did a hard reset (back in to SL) went to Preferences and changed the startup disk and hit "Restart." Then I was able to get the disk out.. whew! Didn't need Disk Warrior after all.
The numbers look promising but the freeze doesn't. iMac did have time to cool down while I was adding the RAM.. Wondering if that is why the numbers looked better.
When you say freezing, does the cursor still move or is everything frozen? Curser moves, but screen unresponsive. I did notice that when I tried to use the eject button, the curser changed into the spinning beach ball.
If the cusor moves, it's just finder freezing which is similar to the Lion issue. Yes, same... but in Snow Leopard
Also, did you restore it onto the Macintosh HD or are you running off external? I used SUPERDUPER or SUPERCLONE (can't remember what it's called..) and copied SL to external HD, then erased internal iMac HD and reinstalled Leopard from original install disks
One other thing is, if you installed to Macintosh HD, did you use carbon copy to restore or Disk Utility? After I wiped the internal HD, I did a clean install from the Leopard intall disks
There should be away to get the disc out if slot loaded. I had that issue once and turned the iMac on it's side and it felt out. There should also be a EFI boot command to eject it. I was able to eject it when I rebooted
SOOOO, I'm back to Leopard 10.5.8... and I forgot to unplug the external Backup... I am hoping that Leopard isn't copying over the backup... because Leopard is a new copy with next to no data on it. It's doing something right now. lol!

Feb 2, 2012 10:10 PM in response to 2rodeeby jmarchalonis,You are probaly correct in saying that the numbers improved as the system was off for some time. Under SL, go into about Mac and extended information. Once in there, go to software, tell me if 64bit is set to yes or no; it should be no by default. It needs to be changed to 64bit and should fix application freezes; just a thought but, it might not be related to this. Open terminal; type sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64 and reset. Let me know what happens. Also using carbon copy and make a bootable SL on external. Hold option on start and choose to boot from the external. I want to know if the issues still exist when booting from external. If issues don't show, boot from install disc and go to disk utility and repair the HD permissions.

Feb 2, 2012 10:19 PM in response to jmarchalonisby joeygillis,My 64 bit is set to yes, but I'm not sure it should be since my iMac is from 2007. Should I change it to no? (I'm running Lion.... I can give full specs if needed.)
-
Feb 2, 2012 10:41 PM in response to joeygillisby jmarchalonis,If it has a core 2 duo, which it should, 64bit is supported but not all aspects are supported like graphics acceleration. Basically, it's a 32bit designed system + chipset but the processor supports 64bit processing. True setting it to 32bit and see if it improves anything after a reboot. Of it doesn't, set it back.

Feb 2, 2012 10:53 PM in response to jmarchalonisby 2rodee,Under SL, go into about Mac and extended information. Once in there, go to software, tell me if 64bit is set to yes or no; it should be no by default. It needs to be changed to 64bit and should fix application freezes; just a thought but, it might not be related to this. IT SAYS "NO"
Open terminal; type sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture x86_64 and reset. Let me know what happens. I can't get to disk utility because "curser moves, screen frozen" when I tried to open the application folder to get to utilities. Is this something that can be done thru Disk Warrior? It's a bootable CD that I've used it to verify and repair permissions.
Also using carbon copy and make a bootable SL on external. Hold option on start and choose to boot from the external. I want to know if the issues still exist when booting from external. If issues don't show, boot from install disc and go to disk utility and repair the HD permissions. My SL is bootable, and is on the external drive. (Made with SuperDuper)
Thank you so much for your help!! I've got to call it quits for tonite. My eyes feel like there is sand in them. LOL!
