Feb 18, 2012 3:42 PM in response to 2rodeeby Studio K,has anyone here got OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion?
I'd like to know if it causes the same symptoms as LION. Overheating and Random freezing.
I'd hope it works better, but I suspect it's just a slight variation on LION (look at the name, after all).
Speak up if any of you get a chance to test the preview version.

Feb 19, 2012 9:02 AM in response to Studio Kby TimoAbram,I downloaded this OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, installed it s a second boot, went to youtube, and about a 2 minutes there it was , a crash, and hard shutdown needed. So, for me, at least this version of mountain lion is the same as the lion
i am having a nervous brakedown allready here
best regards to all....

Feb 19, 2012 9:07 AM in response to rubenlxby joeygillis,Maybe the developer stage of Mountain Lion is the time we can use to get Apple to address this issue. If peopel start posting about this problem before it gets released, maybe it will get them to fix it. That's probably the best bet. Why would they bother to try and fix Lion now if they've got a new version coming out in August? Better to get them to fix it before ML comes out and while they've still really got the ear of the people trying the product.

Feb 20, 2012 6:12 PM in response to Gandalf The Greyby Ben Friedman1,Hi,Just to keep you up to date The Toshiba Satellite was terrible! Plastic junk! It was slow and was irritating to run so I brought it back and got a full refund. I then went to the Apple Store and purchased a MacBook Air i5,4GB of Ram and 128GB HD. It runs great and I just upgraded it from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 No problems so far and compared to the Toshiba it runs smoothly and fast. I am jealous and might even get one myself even though I have the original MacBook Air (2008) I STILL wont upgrade to 10.7 because of the problems evidenced by the users on this forum. I am afraid of encountering the same turmoil on my 2 iMacs.

Feb 21, 2012 3:39 AM in response to rubenlxby Cedric the Great,Just to let folks know that the latest update to Lion fixed my problem.
I have an iMac, late 2009, with the freezing problem and put off updating because I depend on it for work (luckily I backed up Snow Leopard to an external disc before upgrading). I had some time to spare and went ahead with the upgrade, and it worked!
I've been running 7.3 for a week now without a hitch.

Feb 21, 2012 11:40 AM in response to Cedric the Greatby MusioMan,My issue was fixed- graphics card replacement which was seperate from the logic board. News to me, some macs have them as seperate components, some don't. You're lucky if you do!
Been running for 2 days and it would have crashed by now!

Feb 21, 2012 12:20 PM in response to rubenlxby fvd, rubinex: I have exactly same problem, and no, no messages either in the logs you indicated. I have had the problem for weeks now. I have a late 2007 imac with 10.6.8. You will find in this thread others with the same problem.
I have my newest lead. I have Flip4mac installed. It is not the latest version. I am going to update it and see what happens.

Feb 21, 2012 5:51 PM in response to MusioManby iDik,I have a late 2009 iMac 27" i7
on initial upgrade to Lion it worked fine.
on a 10.7.2 upgrade the shut off's came and were frequent, 10 mins into use. Sound kept running but the screen was dead.
I attached a 2nd monitor and mirrored and could do normal shut downs.
I brought it to Apple who said I needed a new logic board at my cost.
I took it to an approved mac dealer who said I needed a new graphics card
I took it to another who said it was the inverter
I took it back and uninstalled all programs that I wasnt using.
The crashes became less frequent.
I updated to latest and now the crashes are rare but more severe. 2nd screen goes down too and the machine fully crashes except for sound.
I'm out of warrenty and hoping its a software issue as I never had a problem with Snow Leopard.
I'm just adding my name to the thread in hope that Apple realise that many people have the same problem.

Constant freezes on my 2010 macbook pro - ridiciulous update, Lion obviously hasn't been tested to the extent that it needs and Apple is quickly losing their reputation for system stability
Worse than Blue Screen of Death days!

Feb 29, 2012 9:44 PM in response to rubenlxby tomfromhavre,Imac Graphic FW Update 3.0 was released today. Does anyone know if this is the solution?
-
Feb 29, 2012 9:51 PM in response to tomfromhavreby stephen_of_adelaide,With my issue (OS crash on awake from sleep), the problem has been fixed. It has been solved by one / or a few of the Apple solutions that have come down the line. Eg. Lion update (10.7.3) with its ATI updates and the firmware updates that have come out. Whatever the issue has been fixed.
What is DISAPPOINTING is that the updates said nothing of instability, crashes, freezes, etc!!! Nonetheless, the issue is being or for some has been fixed. I believe they knew of the issue but don't want the negative press so they marginalise and ignore the issues of users which protects the company from negative press.

Feb 29, 2012 10:11 PM in response to tomfromhavreby mtv,It does work for me: iMac 24" early 2009. It was working perfectly until I've decided to move to Lion :-(
I agree with Stephen - amazing how these updates come with so little information.
So disappointed by Apple support.

Mar 1, 2012 12:51 AM in response to Cedric the Greatby Cedric the Great,I'd just like to add to my previous comment.
I updated to 10.7.3 and it fixed the hanging problem on my iMac Late 2009. For two weeks.
After two weeks my iMac froze again, once, then after a hard reboot it froze again the next day.
I know nothing technical about how a computer works, hardware or software: but I have to assume it's a software problem, because if it were hardware then it wouldn't have taken two weeks to manifest.
Thinking, remember I'm flailing around in the dark, that it might be RAM or a cache somewhere filling up I set my iMac to automatically restart every day. So far, fingers crossed, it hasn't frozen again for five days.
Another thing is that I haven't been using my iMac so much. Before I was taking a lot of work home and pushing it in the evening, now I mostly use it as a server for my iPad.
Maybe it's just voodoo, like they say about rebuilding permissions, but it doesn't hurt since Lion reopens all applications and it is scheduled to happen just before I get home from work.
