Jul 27, 2011 6:26 AM in response to Pierroby Celshader,The vast majority of replies are either describing the same issue, or people saying "me too" or "I have the same problem"... Related issue (like atrifacts) are pertinent because it points to graphics card issues. Not all the replies seem to be the same problem, but most are.
That aside, count yourself lucky for not having the issue. I wish I could say the same.
When did you buy your iMac? it seems like a lot of people's are only a few weeks old (mine included).

Jul 27, 2011 7:37 AM in response to rubenlxby hackensack,Same. Problem. Here.
New iMac 3.4 GHz, i7, 12 gigs RAM.

(Thanks though, for the various ideas. Sadly, nothing has helped..... yet....)

Jul 27, 2011 7:45 AM in response to rubenlxby erichneggens,Same issue here. 2011 iMac 2.7 i5...never noticed the issue until after installing Lion however.
System freeze appears to include everything but the mouse. Only solution is a hard reboot.
Hopefully Apple will grow a pair and pay attention to their own forums...otherwise why do they even bother keeping up with these things?

Jul 27, 2011 7:50 AM in response to erichneggensby Speedy974,Hi all,
Unfortunately, same problem for me: waking up from sleep, wait for two minutes (because of another on-going wifi issue...hahha), start a video on youtube and computer freezes: I can move the mouse bu tthat's it. I have to do an hard reset...
By the way: I just upgraded to Lion (never a problem like that on SL), my iMac 27 is a month old, i7, 8GB or ram, 2GB graphic card...

Jul 27, 2011 8:12 AM in response to rubenlxby yk.teng,My Mac just artifacted on me, it's a 2 day old 27-inch iMac 2011 with the 2GB upgrade. It came with Lion. I was watching a video on YouTube and decided to pinch zoom. I paused the video, unpaused it and the video glitched. After that, certain elements of the entire UI (like shadows) were corrupted. I had to restart to get rid of all the artifacts.
This reminds me of my 2006 iMac that will start artifacting and hanging once it got too hot. But at least for my old iMac it only started doing that once it was 2 years old, not 2 days after I got it.

Jul 27, 2011 8:45 AM in response to rubenlxby b.alexander96,I have the latest generation 27inch iMac and I have exact same problems. Just going to avoid youtube altogether as I do not want to risk damaging my computer. I am extremely disappointed, Apples days of things, ''Just working'' are long up. Next time you are in the apple store I plan to play a youtube video on all the imacs

Jul 27, 2011 8:54 AM in response to rkaufmann87by Yungling Piano Studio,I wanted to comment here that putting my iMac to sleep is what seems to be causing the crashes.
After sleep, Mail will open, then sping endlessly looking for new mail......no other applications will launch and the machine is frozen in a state of "trying" to do something.
I am able to restart....and that fixes it.
But this has happened now three times sice updating to Lion.
I'm not discouraged because three times isn't an inconvenience......but wanted to share that it is happening just in case three turns into 300!
Thanks

Jul 27, 2011 9:31 AM in response to b.alexander96by SL62,Don't forget to put them to sleep first!
Seriously though - how have they not had this problem in their apple stores? But then again - how did they not discover this problem when they were testing their new OS..?!

Jul 27, 2011 9:34 AM in response to SL62by mathieufromquebec,LOL Already tried to crash the Apple Store iMac's but they are locked and never go to sleep... ****...

Jul 27, 2011 10:29 AM in response to rubenlxby noksucow,Does having third party RAM have anything to do with this?
-
Jul 27, 2011 10:31 AM in response to noksucowby Speedy974,I would doubt it since I have the problem with stock RAM.
-
Jul 27, 2011 10:42 AM in response to noksucowby Celshader,I also have stock RAM. Has nothing to do with it.
-
Jul 27, 2011 11:02 AM in response to Celshaderby kirkmc,I posted above in the thread that removing my _Apple_ RAM and using only the third-party RAM I added has eliminated the problem. It'd be really useful if others could test this.

Jul 27, 2011 11:05 AM in response to rubenlxby OverHaze,I'm all Crucial and still have the issue.
I will say this, not putting the mac to sleep seems to be managing the issue for now.
