Jul 28, 2011 12:40 AM in response to rubenlxby PIGIO84,My iMac 2011 on 3 occasions went into freeze while I was watching a video, twice youtube (flash) and once with quicktime (MP4).
At all times the mouse is free to move but can not act on commands. Required forced shutdown with the button.

Jul 28, 2011 12:56 AM in response to PIGIO84by Chippystick,This is happening on my 2008 mbp and my new imac. Both freeze when I try watching vimeo or youtube. Shame on me for installing Lion.

Jul 28, 2011 1:28 AM in response to rubenlxby stefdefrejus,So, I made some tests and Flash can't be the problem.
What I did ;
1. I've uninstalled Flash from my SL partition, with the Adobe official Uninstaller.
2. I've redownloaded Lion from the Mac App Store, and reinstalled it
3. I did Software Updates (iTunes 10.4 especially)
4. I've installed Youtube5 Safari extension, which forces HTML5 player on Youtube
I tried to watch videos from Youtube, iTunes, QT... and no problem. So I forced the iMac to sleep, and wake up, I lauched a video on iTunes (video from the last WWDC keynote, downloaded from iTunes Store) .... and freeeeze.
The mouse moves but I can't do anything except hard reboot.
So, it's not Adobe fault this time... Apple do the job please.

Jul 28, 2011 2:00 AM in response to stefdefrejusby Marcelleke,Okay,
As i can see more then 300 users have responded with the exact same issues.
I contacted these newsblogs:
Engadget.com, Gizmodo.com, 9to5mac.com.
for those who does not know these blogs, these are the blogs who unveiled as first the iphone 4 in 2010 and have helpt reporting issues to the world to put apple under presure. PS: they have now leaked detailles of the iPhone 5
I hope they'll get intoo the news so apple will respond quicker for an update.

Jul 28, 2011 3:18 AM in response to rubenlxby kirkmc,Cnet has an article about a similar problem affecting MacBook Pros:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20083947-263/some-lion-users-plagued-by-bla ck-screen-bug/
It seems that this is likely also a video driver problem, and that sleep has an effect. But it's not limited to playing videos.

Jul 28, 2011 4:24 AM in response to rubenlxby ellishu,I have the same issue. We just bought a new iMac 27 with no problems, then installed OSX Lion a few days later and every time I try to open a video (itunes, youtube) the computer just freezes up. I hope an update fixes this problem.

Jul 28, 2011 6:31 AM in response to rubenlxby Ben Furuta,Check out the article by T Kessler at
reviews.cnet.com/macfixit/?tag=mfiredir
where he outlines a similar problem possibly linked to the graphics card. He writes extensively on the Mac system and this article may give some insight into the graphics problems you are experiencing.

Jul 28, 2011 6:33 AM in response to rubenlxby spacecadetG5,Well I did speak too soon. The solution above doesn't work. Still experiencing crashes after sleep. Pretty poor effort on Apple's part to have such a serious system wide freeze doing such a common task. Is there any hope for a fix soon?

Jul 28, 2011 8:35 AM in response to rubenlxby Speedy974,I am back to square 1... I pretty much stayed up all night to try to go back to snow leopard, it's just been a major nightmare, so here I am back with lion. Fresh install this time and guess what: I still have the same exact issue.

Does it still freeze the machine?

Jul 28, 2011 9:20 AM in response to jean raymondby franmanster,I upgraded to the Lion 10.7.2 avaliable in the developers section and it fixed this problem. I have been running for close to a week with NO freezing. It happened at least 3-4 times a day until the upgrade. I'm 100% sure that my problem is fixed, and yours will be too, on the next software upgrade.
If your starting to loose your mind (like I was), then do a little googling and see if you can find 10.7.2 avalibale for download.
