Q: OSX Lion + 2011 iMac 27'' + Video = Freeze

Hello.

Got a brand new 27'' iMac, installed Lion. The machine freezes randomly when starting to play videos, either on Youtube, Quicktime, iTunes.

When it freezes, the mouse still works, but the machine doesn't respond to any command, requiring me to hit the power button and restart the computer.

Searched on kernel.log and system.log, and found no crash/error/message.

Anyone suffering from the same problem? The machine is pretty solid, been running some OpenCL kernels too and they are ok. It's only video decoding (possible on the GPU) that seems to freeze randomly.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

Absolutely! An on-time release more than makes up for a bug that gives early adopters and new Mac purchasers a near unusable system! Kudos Apple! </bitter sarcasm>

The fact that this fix would have wait until 10.7.2 and not get rushed into a 10.7.1 patch is disappointing, if true.

Stock 2011 iMac 27 inch, except for extended keyboard and third party mouse.  Lion installed.  No Flash installed.  I experience the freeze when playing Quicktime videos (Movie Trailers) or "YouTube HTML5 Trial" (H.264) videos after waking from sleep.

Almost certainly a bug in Lion (base OS or drivers).  It may be dependent on the model of Mac you are running (hardware/software interaction).

    What I recommend:

    1) Post to this thread if you have the problem.  More postings should encourage a solution.

    2) In "System Preferences" select "Energy Saver".  Slide "Computer Sleep" control all the way to the "never" position.  Restart to clear the potential condition if your Mac has been asleep since last restart.

    3) When not using your Mac for extended periods, shut down if you wish to conserve energy.

    4) Be patient.  There is a good chance Apple will fix the problem with an OS or other software update.

I am having this same issue. For the past 8 years everyone has been telling me 'Buy a mac - they neever crash'.

And now i have one it crashes all the time because of this issue - at least with windows i could isolate the prgoramme that crashed and close it. When this crash happens nothing will work except the mouse moves.

27 inch i-mac - 2 weeks old. Installed Lion last weekend + Firefox & flash.

Since the upgrade it crashes everytime i view a website with flash or cideo after it has been in sleep mode.

Going to be honest - after 8 years of thinking about taking the Mac plunge pretty dissapointed that when i finally do my mac is more unstable than any pc i have had!

I'm having a problem with my 2011 iMac 27", i5, 8gb.  I installed Lion on the release date and everything went fine until last night.  I had watched a few YouTube videos and I tried to shut the computer down afterwards.  That is when my odd problem began.  The computer appeared to be closing normally and then a solid gray screen like the start up screen appeared.  The only thing visible was the cursor.  I could move the cursor but the entire system seemed locked.  I manually shut the computer down with the power button.  Is this similar to the lockups everyone else is having?

It's happening with my 21.5 iMac also.  Flash installed and updated.  It's not just web video though.  iPhoto movies have created the system freeze and iTunes video.  Hard restart is the only fix right now.  Has happened about 5 times since installing Lion.

Ack... one more thing. This might be totally unrelated to this bug.. but I'm starting to notice slowness as well now. Have you all noticed that too? Significantly over the last couple of days.

I'm feeling like I'm in some really deep water without a paddle.

Freezing + slowness= really unhappy brand new mac user.

    Yikes.

I'm another victim. A week old 27" iMac and post Lion I videos get the complete lock up. It's seriously disappointing that Apple could have missed this in their testing and QA. Truly bad form.

And please stop screwling about a bad release, First release of xp and vista and 7 were not that good aswell.

Why even go there? Who cares about Microsoft's OSes? I didn't buy one of those, I bought one of Apples. Just because MS have dropped the ball sometimes, is no excuse for a known bug to get into the final build.

Hi everyone just have a 2011 iMac with the following features:

    27 "3.4GHz i7

    256GB SSD

    2TB HDD

    AMD 6970M 2GB

    4GB of Ram

Since I installed Lions have presented a series of problems, the most serious of all is the sudden blocking of the iMac: Screen stuck with the only possibility to move the pointer but could not interact with Dock, windows already open, or possibly do a force quit applications. The only way to return to using the iMac was to restart after turning off the switch. This problem has occurred three times since I installed Lion, twice using quick viewing of two video files on your desktop and the third trying to start a video in a Safari window, and after restarting the same operations were carried out without the problem reoccur. Another ever-present problem every time regards indication of the wi-fi, even though the connection is active, thus giving me the opportunity to use Safari and Mail, the indicator on the menu bar indicates a state of connection and continues looking for a network to connect to. Last problem, which occurred is the 'alteration of the color of the menu bar, dock finder icon and quicktime video.

I tried checking permissions through uilità disk without success.
