Aug 5, 2011 9:43 AM in response to Rogue_Butterflyby Speedy974,Rogue_Butterfly,
How did you find out that your 1TB is defective and is recalled? Did Apple contact you? I have a 1TB and want to makes sure it is fine.
Thanks!

Aug 5, 2011 9:43 AM in response to Rogue_Butterflyby kirkmc,No, I don't think the freeze is related to the drive. I have a 2 TB drive, which is not affected by the drive problem, and I have the freezing. I also have occasional wifi dropouts.

Aug 5, 2011 11:42 AM in response to rubenlxby NIGP,I have been having the exact same issue. Now I am just scared to open any videos . Just talked to Apple Support over phone and they said that it was not a known issue to them and so they don't have any solutions/recommendations except for the usual - try Disk Repair, etc. Anyways, they said they have now logged a complaint and have also placed the URL for this discussion in that complaint.
I know that ultimately they will likely come up with a software update but until then it kind of makes me sad to spend $2K on this machine.

Aug 5, 2011 11:59 AM in response to rubenlxby adamgi,This bug goes further than just freezes. I was able to watch a youtube video but in mid video I navigated to another page yet the youtube audio kept playing. I am 100% positive that I did not have any windows in the background and no other tabs were open within my window. This is a huge bug with may not just be a video driver issue but a memory issue as well.
Here is a tip... in my experence, my imac (mid-2011) tended not to freeze after sleep if I waited some time before playing a video. I usually waited about 10 minutes and have had success playing videos most of the time. If I played a video immidately after waking the computer up from sleep, the iMac would freeze immidately however retain curser movement just like every one else in the forum. Hope apple fixes this soon but while we wait something to get you by.

Aug 5, 2011 12:17 PM in response to rubenlxby b.alexander96,Interestingly, my iMac usually only freezes when playing a YouTube video with adverts at the beginning. Now they say on the apple website Lion is based on iPad and iPhone and iPod software. Eg pinch to zoom etc. On those devices, YouTube videos with adverts are not compatible either. Ofcourse however, they don't crash if you attempt to play them.
I reckon there is a link.

Aug 5, 2011 12:22 PM in response to rubenlxby xaraan,Having the same problem here.
Bought a brand new iMac a couple weeks before Lion came out, zero problems. Installed Lion and anytime I watch online video (from different services- youtube, vimeo, viddler, etc. or using app store players) it causes my machine to freeze up. (Doesn't happen if I watch a movie in quicktime) I either get the beach ball of death or only the curser moves, but nothing is responsive. Sometimes sound keeps playing while screen is frozen too. The system doesn't respond to any keyboard shortcuts for force quits or restarts, you have to hold down the power and do a hard power off and just start over. It also varies too much to only be sleep related in my experience.
It concerns me that I've seen so many posts saying apple is unaware of the problem considering I've sent more than a couple bug reports in about this issue (weeks ago). It's something they should have been on top of from the first report for something like this. A computer that can't watch online videos now-a-days is a waste of deskspace.
Normal fixes haven't worked for me. This is a problem with Lion and software or the way it interacts with hardware. Otherwise it wouldn't suddenly start happening as soon as Lion is installed.

Aug 5, 2011 12:28 PM in response to rubenlxby xaraan,I have AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB card.
And having crashes whenever I try to watch online video (any video service + app store players too). No issues with watching a movie already on my machine in quicktime.
Zero issues before upgrade to Lion.
