Aug 7, 2011 1:27 AM in response to rubenlxby tonyofla,Same problem on 3 week old 27" iMac running Lion. Only way of avoiding it as far as I can see is never putting the machine to sleep, which is a pain. Amazed that there has been no offical response from Apple yet as its such a widely reported problem.

Aug 7, 2011 1:51 AM in response to rubenlxby RikMaxSpeed,Dear Apple,
I'm experiencing the same problem as everybody here: the Mac freezes when playing video from the internet. For now I've disabled Flash, which is hardly an effective solution.
When can we expect to hear some update from Apple on this issue?
Best regards.

Aug 7, 2011 3:24 AM in response to Tarasconby B'o'B,So Apple have a bug fix in 10.7.2 but:
A- Will not ackownlege there is a bug.
B- Will not release this fix for it's users.
Thanks Apple, do you realise the release of a 10.7.1 with the fix would not kill you and may even earn you some brownie points?
If a fix isn't out soon I'm getting tempted to take my imac back for a refund, which would be a shame because on the whole I like the machine and OS, but it's got to work!

Aug 7, 2011 4:33 AM in response to rubenlxby kokolop,Yes, add me to the list. Video freezes and artefacts in Finder window - basically all file titles are scrambled but eventually come good after scrolling.
Not so video. Video freeze forces a restart.
After several macs, this is the worst bug I have come across.
Apple need to fix the problem otherwise this mac will be returned.

Aug 7, 2011 5:28 AM in response to rubenlxby Idoho,Yep, ditto here too. Got a one week-old mac and experiencing the same problem. Quite annoying you can't event use the shortcut key to force quit. Would the repeated reboot damage anything?
Anyways, hopefully the apple folks release the update soon.

Aug 7, 2011 5:58 AM in response to rubenlxby MrParis,I eventually went back to SnowLeopard and sleep issue disappeared, however !!
Mine is the 2011 1month old with 2gb 6970 and 2tb drive, decided to give Lion one more try last weekend and again performed an upgrade. I've tried both upgrade and clean install previously before going back to SL. After the 1st 4 days it seemed stable, was able to sleep and wake and run flash vids/quicktime vids/itunes video. However freeze re-appeared again on Thursday must to my frustration. I hadn't installed anything new, or performed any updates to the system since the Lion upgrade so not exactly sure why it went from stable to play up again. Tried all of the suggested PRAM resets etc but still gives problem, I've resorted to not sleeping my iMac until Apple release a patch, but I have noticed something strange.
Once the freeze occurs, leave the system for a while (5 mins or so). Then give the power button a quick press (don't hold) and then wait again. This should send the system to sleep (according to Apple Power Button Management) and my system seems to go through the motions (eventually), screen will switch off, hard drive will stop and external usb hub which has Led's for connected devices will power down. The system still seems to be on, and not quite in it's sleep state. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same on their iMac? Might take a while for the screen to power off and the system to enter dark mode but be patient. To get out of it I have to either Press and hold the power button (as per the norm) or pull the plug. It might be a better workaround if anyone else can do the same as the Harddrive isn't spinning, so it might not put as much of a strain on the drive.
Only guessing here guys, it was just something I noticed and thought odd so I thought I'd stick it on the board for you guys to test and comment on. Fingers crossed for 10.7.2 shortly.........Please Apple !!

Aug 7, 2011 6:46 AM in response to rubenlxby psendeavor,Count me in: brand new i7 w 10.7, SSD+2TB, 16 GB (Apple, yeah, I know), 2GB GPU: crashes almost consistently when trying to start all kinds of video, including in iTunes, after sleep.
Sad, Apple.

Aug 7, 2011 7:21 AM in response to psendeavorby cfromcardiff,I bought my first ever mac (iMac 27" i5) three days ago after reading how reliable they are and I'm having the same problem as the rest of he people in this forum. I have to say that in all my time as a pc user I've never had the number of crashes and problems that I've encountered over the last few days.
How long will apple take to solve this problem? I've put up with the expense of the machine and having to repurchase essential software that won't cross grade to lion without an update and now I'm lumbered with a machine that crashes five or six times a day.
I was suckered in by my iPhone and iPad working so well - this is a huge disappointment.

Aug 7, 2011 7:51 AM in response to rubenlxby pscl_,**** guys... stop annoying just because there is a new os with some issues.
lion was so pushed before release but anybody who buys a brand new os has to expect some problems... so dont complain about it.
anyway.. this error is massive, no question, but apple still sales good machines with gread software experience.
so... just face the problem... we`ll get a fix soon.
fu***** win os has so many issues, now apple hase ONE major issue too on a BRAND NEW OS... **** guys calm down.

Aug 7, 2011 8:09 AM in response to pscl_by janimac62,I cannot agree with pscl_ more. Everyone needs to chill out. A work aound for MOST cases has been provided until we get 10.7.2 in our hot little upgrade hands.
Stuff happens. It doesn't make it right, but it should be expected.
Putting the "Computer Sleep to Never" and rebooting has totally solved the issue for me. I cannot reproduce it even after watching at least 25 - 30 videos since Thursday. It's a very, very simple work around. It doesn't cost me any money. It isn't a hardware issue. I don't need to take the iMac to the Apple store. I don't need to arrange pick up for a return.
But it does require me to be patient for the 10.7.2 patch which has been verified to fix the issue. I can do that.

Aug 7, 2011 8:11 AM in response to pscl_by Steve Self,Yeah... This to shall pass. I do get annoyed too. But I try and not let my mind runaway with it all.
The workaround: Do not let computer sleep. Sys Pre > Energy Saver > Sleep Never. Check the Schedule part as well to make sure it will not sleep in the night. Then reboot so you don't crash from the last sleep.
Then Shut Down when done for the day.
I have not had a freeze since this. Not the way an Apple computer should ever work, but it is better than holding my breath and stamping my foot until the update comes out.

Aug 7, 2011 8:39 AM in response to rubenlxby mattfromnewtown,After not having a freeze for at least a week and many times coming out of sleep, I finally had one today. I was trying to watch a video on Yahoo when I got the pinwheel. I was able to go to another webpage and shut down Safari but that was it. FREEZE!

Aug 7, 2011 8:54 AM in response to rubenlxby JeffreySambells,Same problem here, but I found that I can still SSH into the machine after it is frozen. It's only the picture on the screen that's frozen. Everything seems to be fine when SSH'd in (except the the picture on the screen is frozen). I can still close and launch apps, etc. This makes me this it's something to do with the combination od flash and the video card where flash causes the output of the video card to hang.
