Aug 10, 2011 11:51 AM in response to rubenlxby Aeroc,I'm so annoyed after paying so much for a new iMac in June and upgrading to Lion. I feel like each time the freeze occurs and I have to hard reboot that it is doing damage to the mac itself. Apple - you need to issue a fix for this ASAP!

Aug 10, 2011 12:05 PM in response to rubenlxby mattsileo,I'm going to keep posting on this thread every day until this problem is resolved, and I suggest you do the same. Maybe if we get the view & reply counts high enough Apple will hear our screams.
After resuming from sleep, attempting to play a video crashes OSX Lion, necessitating hard reboot with power button. No crash report is ever available. I have to reboot my computer multiple times a day unless I disable Sleep.
I paid a lot of money for my brand new machine. This is unacceptable.

Aug 10, 2011 12:52 PM in response to rubenlxby RicBuster,Apparently Apple Care suggest to re-install Lion. This should resolve the problem. Yet to verify.

Aug 10, 2011 1:07 PM in response to RicBusterby appspert,A lot of users have allready tried this, a re-install does not solve the problem

Aug 10, 2011 1:08 PM in response to Celshaderby RicBuster,You are right, it dosent work. I can actually after a complete re-install of Lion create the freeze by putting the computer to sleep and going to apple website and run one of their promotional videos and Voila! Freeze

Aug 10, 2011 3:06 PM in response to Booooooshby larsonej30,The ONLY thing anyone can do right now is just go back to Snow Leopard. I did that a few days ago and have had no problems that Lion currently has with freezing etc. I know it ***** that we have to wait for Apple to fix this but if your like me , I had enough of the Lion issues and am going to sit and wait for them to fix this. I have called into apple support four times and nothing has helped btw

Aug 10, 2011 3:11 PM in response to larsonej30by Steve Self,I think it is easier to NOT SLEEP the Lion install and shut down when done for a while. Unless you really like napping (smile).

Aug 10, 2011 3:54 PM in response to rubenlxby xipi,Hugely disappointed with Lion. Got 2 Macs (iMac 5 - Core 2 Duos) running it. One is reasonably stable, the other freezes several times a day. Never had this much trouble with Mac OS, but this release is so unstable it makes my Mac virtually unusable.
Culprits I have identified so far:
- Firefox with video
- Parallels

Aug 10, 2011 4:13 PM in response to rubenlxby dobboinoz,Having the same issue - so have disabled sleep until it is fixed which has made the imac much more stable.
Interestingly I contacted the app store and asked for a refund for lion as i said it was not fit for purpose and keeps crashing my machine. They gave me a refund no questions asked and were very helpful (restored some faith in apple).
Just repeating this information - if you dont do this apple wont know how many people are having the issue and the seriousness of it. We need to use the official channels to get this as high on the priorities as possible - so please please do the following:
What I think we should all do though is to report this to Apple:
- Contact Apple care: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
- Report a bug: bugreport.apple.com (register if you do not have a login)
- Send feedback to apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html

Aug 10, 2011 6:10 PM in response to dobboinozby dahollingsworth,A couple of potential solutions have been noted by Geekbooth. One was rather horrifying in that it required a mb replacement, but the second was much simpler... I am still trying to determine if it has worked or not, but if it helps anyone:
http://geekbooth.com/osx-lion-black-screen-issue
In its favor, the solution (which requires deletion of a number of preferences files--cmd+shift+g ~/Library to get to them since OS X Lion has hidden the folder away), I have not had a crash in the last twenty minutes.

Aug 10, 2011 6:36 PM in response to rubenlxby Sachit.R1,When looking at the developer build it seems that the kernel extensions and plugins for the graphics cards have been updated. For the radeon cards they went from 7.2.9 (9915) to 7.8.6.(10060). Also the binaries are different

Aug 10, 2011 6:45 PM in response to Sachit.R1by Keifer.Street,POTENTIAL FIX!!! No need to set your iMac to never sleep! Please like if this fixes your problem
Apparently, the video crash is caused by the Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps setting in Lion. Something to do with the way streaming video affects the RAM upon resume from sleep http://www.smallersystems.com/blog/2011/08/problem-with-video-stream-playback-in -os-x-lion-10-7/
To fix this problem (temporarily, until Apple permanently fixes, that is):
Go to System Preferences => General and uncheck Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
