Aug 12, 2011 1:48 PM in response to rubenlxby mstriker,it is soo true that the only people who post are actually people with THE problem.. so we cannot really tell the true picture or cant we??? .. what is it? the imac2011 or else? i wished we would share some positive info as well... and i will be the first one to do so.. : )
i have 2010 imac 27" and 6gb. i was tempted to install lion for the last 30 days but some how I haven't ... was I cheap? hehehehe may be, mayby not... well, i have not eperienced any of the above mentioned issues you guys are talking about, .. how did I know about them? i normally receive c-net daily letter updates... and, i feel your pain folks... it ***** when apple product doesnt work, because it ALWAYS IS EXPECTED to work, isn't it??? well, maybe there is an option of re-installing the snow leopard OS to fix the bug? my 0.05cents...
To be honest I am somewhat new to mac world myself... and I get extremely sensitive and cranky whenever my mac is not working how i expect it to work.... (see the reference above why) .. had alot of trouble with imovies and final cut pro x projects.... (love my 1st gen ipad though).. that's why was tempted to migrate to Lion... well, i guess 29.99 is not worth it for now.. will watch this thread and wait till they fix the bug or... what's the point??? good luck with you guys though... mean it WITH ALL OF MY HART! i swear...

Aug 12, 2011 1:57 PM in response to rubenlxby Sachit.R1,By the looks of it it seems that apple is going to wait till the public release of 10.7.2 instead of releasing an update to specifically fix this issue. I hope they hurry up, i can't take much more of this. However since they are aiming for a fall release this could take a while.
Also back to my previous comment when I said that is seems Apple cares more about the iOS platform - Apple has a conference planed for September 7th where they will unveiled what's new in the next iOS update. Yet they cannot fix this issue.

Aug 12, 2011 2:09 PM in response to rubenlxby MisterDaan,I have a mid 2011 iMac 27" and have exactly the same problem with flash video here. I hate it.

Aug 12, 2011 2:27 PM in response to rubenlxby stefanoitaly,I also have a Mid 2011 27'' iMAC that has the freeze problem like everybody else in the thread.
I think I've found a partial workaround.
We all know that the issue il related to Lion use of the GPU (the graphics board, probably a problem with the driver). We know that the problem seems to happen viewing videos of any kind, after system has been awoken from sleep.
Most of the videos i watch are displayed using flash, so what I've done is to disable hardware acceleration in flash.
That's pretty simple: in any flash applet you can right-click the applet, then click "settings" and reset the "enable hardware acceleration" checkbox (I have Lion in Italian, so actual text could be slightly different).
You only need to do it once: it is a persistent setting.
Since I did that two days ago, I had no more freezes.
Of course it is only a workaround, in fact disabling hardware accelerations makes flash use my CPU more heavily (but...who cares, as long as the CPU had enough power?).
Moreover, the workaround only works for flash videos: if you watch a video in itunes or anything else non flash the Mac freezes, but I feel it's something I can live with (hoping a patch will arrive soon), better than disabling sleep or downgrading to SL.
Be careful: the trick only works with the latest version of flash (10.3.183.5), because the previous one had a bug that prevented disabling hardware acceleration.
I hope that other people can confirm my findings and that my advice will be helpful..

Aug 12, 2011 3:19 PM in response to rubenlxby Bronco Nation,I read that a second build of 10.7.2 Beta has been released to developers. Can any developers who have commented to on this string let us know if there is a fix in the new Beta? Thank You.

Aug 12, 2011 6:53 PM in response to rubenlxby raphaeladidas,I'm not about to read through 60 pages to see if this has been mentioned, but the freeze happens for me in Firefox 5.0.1 when I open a tab with a video but don't watch it immediately. If I go back to the video and expand it fullscreen it will freeze the computer. I don't remember it ever happening if I don't expand to full. (I rarely use QT Player but it's never happened there and I never use iTunes to play video.)
The workaround I've found is to reload the tab before watching the video.
Rarely use Safari so I don't know if the problem and workaround is replicable there for me.

AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB

Aug 12, 2011 7:10 PM in response to raphaeladidasby Steve Self,Current best workaround until Apple updates: sys pref>energy saver>never sleep.
Then shut down when done.
Seems to work for almost all if not all users with this issue.
Good luck.

Aug 13, 2011 2:09 AM in response to rubenlxby JohSm,Everyone that has this problem should open a support ticket with Apple!
We all know that it happens when the iMac 21.5" 27" has been in sleep mode, and you do play a video!
In Quicktime / iTunes and in some cases in a web browser and flash when using OSX Lion 10.7
(In My case it's .mp4 files coded h264, proberbly using some graphics acceleration for playback)
And if it works the first time you just have to put it to sleep a second time and there we have the problem.
Apple support do not know about this problem, i'v told them that it seems to be more than I that got this issue!
So please take your time, call support and tell them your story!
Maybe there is only some models of iMac and Graphics accelerators that has this issue, there could be a problem with the drivers, video firmware/bios, chipset accelerating video etc! Or some software component ofcourse.
So Give Apple à Call!!
I have now passed the first level of support @ Apple! (And it took some time...)
I have tested reseting stuff, created a new user, started in failsafe mode (Video playback wont work at all)..
Quicktime / iTunes Still the same problem
The NeXT step with support is to reinstall everything, needs to backup stuff first!
I don't Think it Will solve the problem, this is a brand new iMac that was delivered with Lion installed from scratch..
Any way, it Will take me to the Third level of support i Think!
We Will see where it ends...

So far 10.7.2 doesn't freeze after or during any movie playing in QT or Adobe Movie Player.
avi, flv, mov, mpeg play fine
Putting computer to sleep & reopening doesn't cause freezes either. movies still play OK after sleep.
Hope this helps.

Aug 13, 2011 6:55 AM in response to elferby raininnewark,Like elfer, I installed the latest plugin. I was still getting the issue, however. So, like it was suggested somewhere else (I think on this thread), I turned hardware acceleration off and that has seem to have done the trick so far.
