Mail - OSX Lion - Can't change font in mail list

Just chiming in; still an issue with Sierra. Amazing that it's persisted this long.

Funny how every email app has one infuriating problem that keeps it from being your main email app (Mail, Airmail, Unibox, Spark, etc.).

I have Sierra on my iMac and have tried enlarging the font all to no avail. I followed all of the instructions and the font refuses to get bigger.....A neighbor has a problem with seeing and asked me to try enlarging the font her computer. Followed all of the instructions and the font will not change on her iMac either. You would figure if Apple published a remedy it would work but it doesn't. Sorry you are having the same problem.....

I agree. This is currently my biggest frustration with Lion. Mail just looks overwhelmingly cluttered when you have a ton of messages. I kept trying to change the mail list as well and it won't update. Guess we'll have to wait for Apple to fix this.

I think I'm happier showing 0 lines from the message body. Just subject & from makes it a little easier to look at. Still, I'm surprised Apple settled on this asthetically. It's like it needs more space and less boldness.

Agreed. I've tried everything. Why offer the font change in preferences if you can't honor it?!? System prefs general allows you to enlarge sidebar icons but that only makes the folder section of mail larger. So you can make columns one and three bigger but not the message list. Lame. Seems like an easy fix. I hope.

Mail Prefs > Fonts & Colors....set all fonts to Helvetica 288......no change

The size of the font in the message list is a major annoyance for me as well. You can increse the font in the message itself which is fine. I do like having the message list off to the side but it's barely readable as it is on my 13" Macbook Air.

You can change the size of the font (just not the font type) here: Preferences - General - Sidebar icon size.

It makes the account list on the side bigger, but the message synopsis and sender ifo is still way too small. How can I get those bigger? The message font is easily adjusible. The details in the message listing is waaay too small.

Mail Prefs > Viewing....use classic layout

This seems to fix the problem, if it not a problem to not use the "new" layout

Agree, this is a bug it seems - Prefs - Fonts & Colours - has the option to alter the message list font, but that option only works in classic view not in the new Lion message list view.

This may be a probelm for many as different Macs have different screen resolutions.

I have spent several hours on the phone with Apple on this. It is getting kicked upstairs a second time. The apple tech guy had me reinstall Lion and tried everything else. Not a trivial problem, apparently, and acknowledged to be a bug. Stay tuned.

Also finding this terribly annoying.

On a related note, can someone post the default font settings that Lion ships with? There's no "restore defaults," and I'd like to go back to them since my customizations were for the old version.
