Q: Lion - Horrible MacBook Pro Battery Life

After upgrading to Lion, my MacBook Pro battery life has been severly affected. After 1.5 hours of light web browsing, my battery has decreased to 40% from 100% after charging all night.

Notes: Spotlight completed indexing the hard drive over night, and the laptop remained plugged in charging. The fans seem to be running normally, not at a higher rate. The backlight is at 50% brightness.

Thoughts?

What were the results of your investigations?

The results were that (since I'm not a computer engineer) I didn't find anything wrong (except the battery life) with any of the computers I checked. I'm not saying nothing IS wrong with them, but I'm just saying that the problem is over most of our heads.

Fact is that a lot of people have tried doing a bunch of stuff they shouldn't have to be doing to fix and troubleshoot the problem and that Apple engineers have more than enough user info to start doing their job and fix the **** problem!

Clone your drive for safekeeping, erase the internal and reinstall Lion, test battery life. This procedure takes about 2 hours and will conclusively show whether you have a software issue, why don't you try it.

Such profound insight. Thank god for your comments... we have been running like headless chickens for months... but now we know what to do to get this fixed. We need to find what the issue is!

    Are you a politician?

Maybe I missed something, but I haven't read a single report that this actually helped anyone who previously had the problem. On the other hand, I read numerous reports that this doesn't help.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion (not sarcasm).

+ Even if this was the solution to the problem, it still wouldn't be acceptable that so many people have poorer battery life because they installed Lion "the normal way".

I really don't care whether you want to try to fix it or not.

Guess that shows that I am not a politician.

It is not a solution, it is a diagnostic test, if the battery life improves it points to software issues in your user account!

Csound1 - you sound like a muppet - British term, look it up!

Anyway, brand new MacBook Pro. 8GB, 512gb SSD, rarely get over 3 1/2 hours. GFX card status gets me 5 hours. CPU usage is less than 3%. Battery dies 8% overnight. No wifi, even with monitor at zero brightness.

Apple corporate have reached out to me. Engineers have reached out to many in this thread. Many in this thread have been to the Genius bars all around the globe (Yes, I even went to one in Australia). Some many times. Everyone is stumped. Apple engineers have run special software to try and identify the differences and find the problem. Minior hints (10.7.3.) looks like battery life might be coming back to pre-lion actuals. Fingers crossed.

If you take a machine, upgrade to Lion, get half battery life and can't get anyone at Apple to fix it, that's a BUG.

See, you are a muppet. You are a proven troll, with zero useful intelligence to a real problem on my or many others $4500 macbook pros. All you give a ***** about is boosting your responses. Anyone in this thread can go look how much of a muppet you are by looking at some of the waste of time suggestions you made in the early days we reported these problems and you called us all idiots. End of. Go away. TROLL!

I understand what it is. But as I said, this has been done numerous times and I haven't read that it helped anyone. Meaning that the "results don't vary" hence no need for one more useless "test result".

Before going through all that trouble you should try something simpler....

In my case, the issue was caused by the video card... it was always using the Radeon(discrete) insteaf of swtiching betweeen the integrated and the discrete based on what was needed.

    Download http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus

and when running on battery, switch to integrated.... when you need the full power go to discrete.

This has given me twice the battery life.

Whatever you want to think is fine, I have 43 Lion machines in the field, none of them have any battery issues, diagnosing your problem would be the most help but you are not asking for help, bye

    Sure.

Me too. I own a flying a cow. Have you ever seen one?

So you are neither offering or asking for help?

No I'm selling milk and cheese. The flying ones.
