I subscribed to this thread in the hope that somebody, somewhere might have discovered a reliable and universal solution to the problem. I have posited one or two suggestions/observations here – in the end they too were obviously useless...
I really like Apple, but instances like these deeply disappoint me; it would make a world of difference for customers/users if Apple would at least acknowledge that some of us have genuine grievances with their products, and reassure us that they are at least 'looking into' the issue. A 50% decrease in battery life is a serious issue.
Because of their lack of response, I am compelled to follow these and other increasingly snark-filled, troll-infested and ultimately futile threads in the hope that a user-generated solution will be found. I do believe that this is now an issue that only Apple can resolve, so I will try to be patient until they release their next upgrade.
Apple, if you're following this at all: we know these things happen from time to time. Just acknowledge that you've heard your customers' concerns, so that we at least know you're committed to keeping the people who chose to buy your products happy.

As you know, this is a user forum and you are not speaking to Apple, but I would think after reading SOME people's experiences here that Apple are addressing the problem in their next update. There have been issues with all new OSs, both Apple and Windows and some have taken longer to iron out than others. 11 verions of Tiger, I think only 3 with Leopard and eight with Snow Leopard. But with reports so evident of this problem all over the net, not just in trouble shooting forums, but in reputable PC sites, then I think there is an issue that can't be and isn't being ignored. I also think that it's a matter of being just a little more patient and not getting a substandard update only to need another one two months on. So a lot of people are relying on the developers to get this right.
Good Luck

You're right. Me too I was expecting you were the one posting a solution to the issue.

Do people here ever looked at their powerd logs to get real batery usage, or if they're not able used a stopwatch to get it?
Rayced, to keep going on about powerd log files; how did you get powerd to write log files? At default settings I can't find any powerd logs in Console. And yes, I'm logged in as administrator.
Earlier you mentioned that they can be found under "Diagnostic Reports", which would suggest it's actually a problem report, i.e. crash, spin or hang, which in turn means others won't have these log files and there is something wrong with your setup.
Or am I just missing something here?

Look in "diagnostic and usage reports" or something like that (sorry I don't use my system in English cause it's not my native language).
You'll find the powed logs uder that tab.
Everything is very detailed: time of sleep or wake and the reason (lid open, lid closed, power button, etc.) and the kind of power the laptop was using (AC stands for wall plugged, BATT… self explainotary ). For the battery it also logs the charge level (100 is the value for the maximum charge).
Despite it will not log when you plug or unplug the power adapter, it can be very useful to basically test the battery uncharge from full charge to zero charge.
It can also be useful to check how much charge was drained after a long sleep period.
So far I've found out that when the computer is left in sleep mode for a long period (around 10 hrs) and the battery level was around 50%, the sleep drain is less than if the battery had an higher charge level (80%-90%).
In my last test I've lost around 3% of charge after leving the laptop in sleep mode for about 10hrs. It dropped from 57% to 54%. A little better than when I do the same operation —long sleep time— but with battery at 100%. In this case I've report always a loss of 1% of battery charge every 2 hrs (in total 5% in 10hrs).
I suspect this has to do only with the Li-Polymer behavior as phisical device. In facts Apple says and strongly suggest to leave the battery at half charge before letting the computer off for a long period, in order to preserve the battery life.

Unsubscribing as well. Useless banter.
Wow. I suspect your advice is the best one I've read so far to solve the battery drain issue.
Thank you for sharing.

My apologies for the wrong translation back to english.

So what folder path does one follow to find these logs? They don't come up in a spotlight search.
Thanks

Yes it is in there. Look for "powerd".
It also where you have to look at to diagnose what makes a mac slow on going into sleep mode or waking up. You'll see entries for processes that might hang for a while. You'll find the which has the longest hanging time and that's the responsible for the long time to wake/sleep of your mac.
I'm not inventing anything here, it's well documented on many basic Mac maintenace sites, books, etc.

It still doesn't show up anywhere on my Macs. Can you either post a screen shot of it or give a folder path to this? Which Library is it in for example? I can't see it anywhere.
Thank You
