I didn't doubt him, I just wanted to know what data gets collected (or better what's used to collect it), as I still can't put my finger on what's using the extra power and the name of some diagnostic unix tool might have steered me into the right direction (and may have come in handy too).

But it sounds like it is some kind of collection (of tools and/or commands) and serves to narrow down the circumstances under which the increase in power consumption occurs.

Yeah!  I think it's Apples generic diagnostics collection tool.

I wonder if it's okay to share?  Maybe Apple would have an issue with that???

I don't have any perticular desire to trawl through the vast number of logs this thing seemed to collect.

A new twist in the story; if you want to use iBooks Author, You must upgrade to 10.7.2. Apple is forcing us to accept this crappy battery life in order to take advantage of new software.

Yes, that's such a conspiracy! iBooks Author was released for that purpose. An alien told it to one of my flying cows.

Hey, how'd you get the Flying Cows?  I thought they were going to be a new feature of Lion 10.7.5.

I'd say it depends on what was written in the accompanying email.  They'd put something like "confidential - do not forward".

The option is open to go back to Windozze if you can't handle a Mac. Seriously no one will miss you.

Anyone here. Is Vmware good or bad for your battery life with Mac (under LION) for you?

  • Redarm Level 4 Level 4 (2,580 points)

Excuse me?  Why should I want to go (back to?  That was 15-20 years ago) to Windows?

  • Redarm Level 4 Level 4 (2,580 points)

Anything using your CPU is bad for battery life, so it's definitley not good for it.  My experience is that virtual machines are pretty taxing, but don't take my word for it, just open up Activity Monitor and have a look on its CPU% usage.  The higher that is, the more power gets drawn.

Too bad we can't miss the missus.

Can't you give it a rest and stop trolling? I do not understand the holier and better than thou attitude. The majority of people come here because they looking for help.

Then there are those who come here to satisfy their egos.

Installed Lion yesterday. Thrilled with the new features, not so thrilled with the 3 hour battery life on my 2.4Ghz i5 4GB Ram MBP. Total bummer, since finding power outlets at school is a royal pain.

    new update:

i am still showing great idle battery life. i started up my 15" MBP (late 2011) this morning. with 89% battery life i showed 7hours 45mins. let it set a while, no change. i enabled Wi-Fi and the battery dropped to 4hours 45mins.

then a second later to 4hours 30mins. then back up to 4 hours 50mins. and then to 4hours 40mins. al in a matter of a minute. and again i am literally only using wi-fi to be on this message board to post this. no other apps are running.

plugged in my external drive (WD 2TB self powered) batt life went up to 5hours 9 mins, then immediately down to 4hours 40mins again.

connected 17" Benq VGA monitor via mini-display(thunderbolt) to VGA adapter and battery dropped immediately to 3hours 1minute

Connected my Digidesign Digi003 control surface/audio interface via firewire and lost another 15 minutes of battery ife instanly

remove all of the above and battery life returned to stabalize at 4hours 15minutes

perhaps the ports (USB, Thunderbolt and Firewire) are drawing power even if they dont need to. any thoughts on that?

also, has there been any speak of a class action law suit for false advertisement? i mean, i am what you would likely call a "Mac guy" but i think this is rediculous. i own 2 ipad 2's, an 2009 13"MB (which has great battery life under SL still), a brand new 15" MBP (Major Battery and numerous Performance Woes with Lion), had a G5 quad Core, we have an 8 core Mac Pro at the studio, i phone4...but this recent performance and attention to detail has been very disappionting. most especially the lack of battery performance after the advertised numbers... any thoughs on this?

oh, and trolls, please keep shut...add value or type nothing at all
