Kernel Panic in Lion

Hi!

It has been 24 hours now since I've installed Lion on my iMac. Previously with Snow Leopard everything worked smoothly but now every 30 min and sometimes less than that I get kernel panics that keep me from using my computer.

This is the report generated after the panic. Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?

Thanks in advance

This is exactly how we have had to "fix" our kernel panics. As long as the wireless is off then the machines work perfectly. When the wireless is on it eventually panics. I have had to do this on 20 machines, luckily none of them require wireless to get on the network.

Apple has been less than helpful on this and from what I am seeing it is pretty wide spread.

i was looking how to add our "voice" to apple. i clicked on a link earlier where someone suggested going but you have to be a developer. the only good news? i wasn't crazy on what was happening, others have had it also. this has been happening for a while according to this forum with the time stamp, i guess by now i'd have thought apple would have fixed this. we had macbook pros with lion that we purchased first and don't have this problem, so it looks like it's just with iMacs...strange, but thank goodness the laptops don't have the issue.

I have a 2007 MacBook and as soon as I installed Lion 10.7.3 I started having random kernel panics.

I spoke with Apple Support yesterday (they gave me a "Freebie" even though I bought Lion more than 90 days ago) and we went through the OS reinstall - still kernel panics. Next step is supposed to be for me to make the 100-mile trek to Metaire, LA, and have an Apple Genius try to do a software isolation.

After following this forum thread I do not think I will do that.

Tonight I am going to hook it up via ethernet cable and leave it to run all night - it has not managed to run more than a few hours without a kernal panic, so if it runs all night without crashing it further confirms that it is an Apple-created issue.

Of course, now I find out that my Intel GMA 950 equipped MacBook will likely not be able to run OSX Mountain Lion. Thanks, folks.

has anyone applied the new WiFi patch just for grins? from the description:

This update resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3.

it doesn't seem like this will help, but I'm curious. I should point out that this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3704539, doesn't give me much hope though. Anyway, I'm not applying this patch for now.

Feb 25, 2012 6:57 PM in response to Lost In Austin

ok, then no i haven't . you are going to wait on it you said? i will too as it's in a lab wired now so it's not urgent but i do hope they fix it, a secretary has one and she is wired but during enrollment in August she moves her computer and would need wireless then. the explanation for the update doesn't fit our problem anyway right? the sleep isn't an issue with this. students are doing work and it'll kernal. an i read an earlier post that replacing that system file with a snow leopard one fixes the issue but of course makes the Air Drop not work. so i would think it has to be tied to that capablity that Apple put in with air drop.

now on our macbook pro's we had this issue: Mac OX X Lion freeze after wake-up https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3232200?answerId=17688191022#17688191022&ac_cid=142432#17688191 once i had sophos ignore the time machine backups it no longer freezees on wakeup.

and now they have moutain lion coming out...

Mar 20, 2012 1:12 PM in response to MiB4

was on the phone with AppleCare. They had me go to this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484?viewlocale=en_US and download the combo. I don't know if there is a difference between doing a software update which has the combo but I did it the way they said.

i've installed the 10.7.3 combo update on one of the iMacs that we have had kernal with wireless. after that I did additional updates through software update including the aiport update, and was able to perform all of those wirelessly without any issues.

The students are on spring break, next week will tell the tale of whether this fixed the issue or not. if it is successful/not successful i will post to let you know.
