Kernel Panic in Lion

Hi!

It has been 24 hours now since I've installed Lion on my iMac. Previously with Snow Leopard everything worked smoothly but now every 30 min and sometimes less than that I get kernel panics that keep me from using my computer.

This is the report generated after the panic. Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?

Thanks in advance

Same problem for me.

iMac C2D, 3,06GHz, 4GB RAM.

no problems running 10.6, after the update to Lion Kernel Panics and the log showing problems with the Airport Atheros.

Switching off the airport saved me so far from new Kernel Panics.

Using a wired connection to the world at the moment.

I think we have to wait for 10.7.1

Hmm. Don't know if this a related or similar issue to what you all are experiencing. My Mac Mini 2.4GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo (upgraded to Lion) started to kernel panic in the past couple of days. It would do so shortly after a apple magic trackpad connected or disconnected overlay appeared on the screen. I've now switched back to using the Magic Mouse and all appears Ok.

When I switched back to the trackpad as an experiment, the Kernal Panics started again.

Same as everyone else. Cool with Snow Leopard, frequent crashes with Lion.

Came home from the cottage, had 5 kernel panics in 30 mins yesterday, and finally lost my ****.

Searched this forum, and found KYAHX - the man!

Tried Kyahx fix: kext and kext installer ...

NO MORE KERNEL PANICS! It's now been almost 24 hours, with at least 12 hours of use/downloading, etc.

Thank you so much Kyahx!

I LOVE Lion, but this was driving me insane, and making my iMac unusable!

Where were you Apple? Never had an Apple product EVER that acted like this. Disappointing since my iMac is a 2010. This should have been better tested!!!

Aug 15, 2011 10:33 AM in response to J.Arch

Kernal Panics too frequently now. Having to do a fresh install of Snow Leopard and downgrade. It's too important as I do my design work on it. From my experience of Lion I will be staying in Snow Leopard. Lion doesn't feel stable and the things they have taken out and changed are too severe. The new Mail is horrible. The iOS app launcher is tacky and pointless. Never used it. Ditching Rosetta is deal breaker. Can't understand why you would throw such a useful thing away. Felt so stripped of personality as it goes probably the worst OS X ever. It seems Apple is going down the route of being so minimal it has no identity. So much for the 1984 commercial.

I replaced the IO80211Family.kext with version 3.2 from Snow Leopard. Since then no Kernel Panics any more. I copied the one in System/Library/Extensions to my external hard drive and then put the version 3.2 back with Time Machine. It's not a crucial driver for starting the system, so i tried it. And it did the trick.

Now there's an update for Lion available (10.7.1) and i checked to see if this driver is replaced by an updated one, and that is not the case. I haven't tested putting the OS X Lion version back to see if this update solved the KP's in some other way. But Apple did not issue a new version of this driver with the current update.

Just to let you know.

Aug 22, 2011 12:21 AM in response to albertmoreno

Using version 3.2 of the IO80211Family.kext file and Kext Utility to install it, resolved all my Kernel Panic issues.

I can confirm 10.7.1 still has the problems with Kernel Panics unless installing 3.2 of the IO80211Family.kext file.

10.7.1 has fixed my 5.1 to stereo issues though as AppleHDA.kext has been updated. Hopefully IO80211Family.kext will be updated in the next OS update.

Aug 22, 2011 1:45 AM in response to h3yaz

Kerrachers reply saves me some work. I didn't test 10.7.1 with the newest IO80211Family.kext and i won't replace the version 3.2 i still have installed until a new update.

Since i replaced the IO80211Family.kext with the 3.2 version everything runs smooth here. No Wifi problems and no Kernel Panics. i'm not touching anything

An update for those with the Bluetooth/Magic Trackpad kernel panic. I updated to 10.7.1, deleted the trackpad and wireless keyboard from the Bluetooth System Preferences Pane, ran the Onyx "Automation" tab with almost everything selected (particularly kernel cache), re-paired my trackpad & keyboard and have been stable for a couple of days now. I'm hoping that this holds up...

Aug 25, 2011 12:21 PM in response to h3yaz

I would like to add that I have started getting Kernal Panic's ever since updating to Lion. I never had this issue while on Snow Leopard and really hope Apple resolves the problem. Below are my Mac Specs.

Model Type: Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch

Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Harddrive: 160 GB
