Q: Kernel Panic in Lion

Hi!

It has been 24 hours now since I've installed Lion on my iMac. Previously with Snow Leopard everything worked smoothly but now every 30 min and sometimes less than that I get kernel panics that keep me from using my computer.

This is the report generated after the panic. Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?

Thanks in advance

I would like to add that I have started getting Kernal Panic's ever since updating to Lion. I never had this issue while on Snow Leopard and really hope Apple resolves the problem. Below are my Mac Specs.

Model Type: Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13 inch

Processor: 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    Harddrive: 160 GB

    Hi everyone,

Ive stumbled upon this forum after seething about kernel panics in lion.. I too started getting them after I installed lion. However a few days before hand I got the hard drive and ram upgraded, could this be an issue?

It wasn't until after I installed lion that I got the kernel panics. It got too much so this morning I tried to restore my old snow leopard backup from time machine. It went through the setup and worked, so I clicked ok to restart my computer. Once it restarted I got a kernel panic on the screen with the apple logo.. I tried again and it happened again :/

Can anyone help me? I would be happy to just reinstall a fresh copy of leopard then upgrade to snow leopard. But the kernel panics happen too soon it seems to boot from cd..

May be you have bad luck with the new installed RAM. Try a hardware test or replace the old RAM configuration. Only this way you can distinguish if the kernel panics come from Lion or the RAM. And since you remove Lion, it might be the RAM so check/excluded that problem first.

Thanks, I will definitley try that. Just one other thing, when I am in disk utility my hard drive capacity says 465.4 (499,763,888,128 bytes). That's normal right?

    1GB is 1 000 000 000 bytes

now it depends if you call 1024 bytes = 1 kb or 1000 bytes = 1 kB. Going to a disk of 500 GB, the difference is visible. (465 versus 500)

so to promote a disk, it is called 500 GB, but in reality counting the bytes is wil be less.

    Hi everyone,

So I've been reading around this post and searching online, but I seem to have the same problem.

    Mid 2010 Macbook Pro, 2.66ghz Core i7, 8GB RAM, Nvidia 330M.

I upgraded to OSX Lion 2 days after realase via the App Store. Everything ran fine and good. But after about a month later my laptop became hotter and the fans started running higher.

So I made an appointment at the Apple Store nearby and the guy diagnosed it and found out that there was something wrong with it, I think it was the gpu or something, but all I know is that they had to replace the whole logic board.

I got the laptop back a day later, new logic board installed. Powered it up and everything seemed to be cool. Fans were running normal but the start up and shut down is still a lot slower than what it was when I had Snow Leopard.

Anyways, this evening I the moment I answered a Skype video call, my screen just went black...... It restarted, the moment I logged in, it happened again. And one more time....... Now it's running fine at the moment, however, now my magic mouse is playing up! ARGH!!!

    Thank you Kyahx.

The kernel ext swapping did the trick.

I wasn't able to even open Software Update without a crash but now everything is working just fine again.

I have been having up to 10-15 KP every day since installing Lion. KP occured while downloading via ftp or torrent, using safari, itunes and the appstore. I also had frequent WiFi dropouts. I Tried Kyahx solution and it seems to work. However, If this means I will loose Airdrop...who cares, what I need is a machine that f.... works. Thanks Kyahx, great work!...and Apple should have solved this prior to the launch.

Bless you, Kyahx. The Apple support people receiving crash reports also thank you. Mine had started to get fairly vicious. I can finally get back to work!
