Q: Kernel Panic in Lion

Hi!

It has been 24 hours now since I've installed Lion on my iMac. Previously with Snow Leopard everything worked smoothly but now every 30 min and sometimes less than that I get kernel panics that keep me from using my computer.

This is the report generated after the panic. Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?

Thanks in advance

Okay, I tried Kyahx's suggestion but just got another Kernel Panic.  I've noticed my bluetooth keyboard, although it has 75% battery life has been having trouble staying connected to the iMac lately.

Here's the info the Kernel Panic window gave me:

Is it possible there is an issue with the bluetooth software on my machine that, since upgrading to Lion, is causing the Kernel Panics?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

I have been having rare (about once a month) kernel panics due to my Bluetooth magic mouse since upgrading to Lion and could not figure out what was going on...until yesterday. The Bluetooth mouse operates on 2.4 GHz frequency, alnd from what I understand, this frequency is open to a lot of interference...from wireless phones and all sorts of devices...my computer is set up less than 3 feet from an AT&T 3G Microcell tower and this seems to cause Bluetooth issues...here is a link to a AT&T forum which talks about this matter: http://forums.att.com/t5/3G-MicroCell/Wireless-Mouse-Interference/td-p/2010217

In Lion, WiFi and other security as been tightened, and I've decided to move my 3G minicell to reduce the possibility of interference.  Computers don't operate in a vacuum, and sometimes we just have to look around to see what could be causing a problem...BTW, 2.4 GHz wireless phones also do a number on Bluetooth peripherals. Hope this info helps someone.

Thanks for the suggestion Tess888.  I reinstalled Lion by the way, no luck, still got a Kernel panic.  The report looks almost identical to the last one - bluetooth related? I'm wondering - I use a bluetooth keyboard, bluetooth mouse, and bluetooth trackpad - can they be interfering with each other and this result in a Kernel Panic? I'm going to try to go without my trackpad for a while and see what happens.

What happened to "Macs never crash"? Ho Hum....

You're welcome dradam...it's no secret that the way Lion interacts with WiFi is a lot different than Snow Leopard...remote backups to a wireless Time Machine are very ify now...increased security, I believe, and some new 2.2 protocol...think it's net to talk, but I'm not sure. In any case, are all of your Bluetooth devices of Apple origin, or are they third party?  As for causing a Kernel Panic, yes, I think it's possible, from what I've seen of Lion so far...it's a great operating system, but when something disagrees with the Big Cat ...it's a hairball (crash). Found some other info, which may be helpful to you as well... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3250763?start=0&tstart=0   After I move my mini 3G tower, I'll post a progress report if the kernal panics have finally stopped for good.

FYI, I just received an email from an Apple engineer about my kernel panic reports.  I passed along this thread and the Snow Leopard-kext-replacement hack, so... hopefully we'll see a real fix soon.

Update...It's been 8 days now, and no more BlueTooth kernal panics...so far. I moved the AT&T Mini-cell 3G tower to the other end of the house and the Internet as well as Blue Tooth is working much better now. I was also having have problems with a second Magic Mouse on another MBP, and I thougt it was a defective mouse...it's working normally now as well.

Hi everyone, I have an iMac 21,5" (late 2009) and a month ago i installed Lion. Yesterday when I tried to turn off my Mac I had a Kernel Panic. Now my Mac is working without problems. Here's the report, can anyone help me?

    Thanks in advance.

I noticed that you have VMware in your logs...you should update to the latest version of VMware (4) or try the new Parallels 7, which is an easy install, goof proof, and great in Lion. I had graphics issues in VMware 3.1.3, but they're gone now. Also, you should update Flash...I was experiencing kernel panics and freezes and lots of errors in the console app...and terrible Safari memory leaks...a Flash upgrade seemed to fix these issues as well...hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Same problem here.  Have both Apple bluetooth keyboard and magic trackpad connected.  Getting kernel panics on startup only.  Once the system starts, it's very stable.  Fairly certain that the problem is related to the trackpad which - even on good days - connects and disconnects upon system start.

Started the MB Pro with battery pulled from trackpad and all is well.  Once system started up, popped battery back in and trackpad connected and have been running a few hours w/o problem.

Hopefully Apple has an update for the bluetooth driver soon.

so it's been 6 months now since this issue has surfaced, and two lion updates later, apple has yet to address this issue.  kernel panics, every day even after deleting window server files, and switching to full time high performance graphics.

Immediatelly after the upgrade to 10.7.2 the first restart resulted in a kernel panic.

Had to swap kexts again as per Kyahx' hint and everything works fine since then.
