Same exact issue on an install of Lion. Would be much appreciated if anybody could help resolve this.
i can't find any help online...
I had a similar problem and found that it was being caused by the printer drivers. So you could try opening Print & Fax and removing any existing printer you have. Then you could try opening Preview or TextEdit to see if it still errors.
Deleting print driver was no use. I need help. gg don't answer to me.
I'm facing the same problem and deleting print driver doesn't work for my Mac.
Experiencing the same issue. Repairing permissions did not help. Deleting and reinstalling print drivers did not help.
Same Problem here. Removing Printers etc. didn't help aswell...
Is there any way to reinstall Preview?
Exact same issue here. TextEdit and Preview force close after a couple of seconds every time I try and open them. The icon just bounces for a moment then the error pops up. (iMac - 20-inch, Early 2008)
I only have tho problem on my Mac Pro:
Model: MacPro5,1, BootROM MP51.007F.B03, 12 processors, 6-Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz, 20 GB, SMC 1.39f11
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770, ATI Radeon HD 5770, PCIe, 1024 MB
On my early 2011 MBP it is working fine.
I tried replacing the .app on my MP with thoe one on my MBP but no success...
These two programs create and maintain special directories as part of the auto-save/versions feature in Lion. These folders are in /Users/<name>/Library/Containers
Perhaps this is related to what is causing these applications to crash?
I think I found the cause of the problem: you cannot have any symbolic links or alias in your home directory.
Delete the alias, and then Preview.app and Textedit.app will open again without error. Once you succesfully launch the applications, you can then go back a re-create the symbolic links.

Did restart work..?
Yep the symlink to Downloads was my Problem aswell!
I did remove the link started PReview and restored the link...
Now it seems to work fine.
Thanks a lot!
it works like a charm 🙂
Thanks
I'm having the same problem as the origonal poster did but I don't understand how to change the symlink to downloads.
The link just say what to do but didn't tell me how. Please explain.
