Preview Edition of Vodafone Mobile Broadband for Mac

If you have a brand new Apple Mac with OS X 10.7 Lion, or have just upgraded your Mac to this system, older releases of the Vodafone Mobile Broadband for Mac application may not run correctly. Vodafone is currently verifying the application on OS X Lion, and will release it as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have OS X 10.7 Lion and would like to manage mobile and AirPort connections, and SMS text messaging on your Mac, you can download this special Preview Edition of Vodafone Mobile Broadband.

Full Lion-ready Release of Vodafone Mobile Broadband for Mac

The Preview Edition will only be available until the full OS X 10.7 Lion-ready version of the Vodafone Mobile Broadband for Mac application is released. After 9th September 2011, the Preview Edition will advise you to download the latest release, which will have full support for OS X 10.7 Lion. The full release will completely replace the Preview Edition, and remove the advisory message.

Supported Versions of OS X

Beginning with this Preview Edition, the following versions of OS X are supported by the Vodafone Mobile Broadband for Mac application:

  • 10.5.8 Leopard (Intel/PowerPC)
  • 10.6 Snow Leopard (Intel)
  • 10.7 Lion (Intel)

Support for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger ends with the introduction of OS X 10.7 Lion.

Download and install the dmg package (beta version for LION): Vodafone Mobile Broadband 4.06.01.00.dmg

Keep the USB modem installed into your USB port.

The Vodafone software has the 64 bits drivers. You do not need to use the installed software (in my case worked fine, even that I am using a different 3G provider).

Go to:

System Preferences

Network

and configure ZTEUSBMODEM driver with you connectivity information (bellow is my own setup information, in your case could be different).

Click connect button and it should work.

Looks like good info, but unfortunately doesn't work with my ZTE AC2736 USB modem 😟

After this vodaphone software is installed, my USB modem is not even detected by the macbook pro! After this is uninstalled, the modem shows up fine again...

I got some other ZTE app and it works to some extent with my modem, connects fine and I'm able to browse.. But if I try to access multiple sites, or even quick clicks on a same site, Lion crashes harshly and asks me to hold the power button to shut down and do hard restart.😢

It works fine as long as I have only a single site open at a time, and wait till it loads fully before I click any where on the site...

Does anyone knows of a solution to this?

Simply download, unzip, install it and configure System Preference, Network, ZTEUsbModem with your mobile provider info, in Claro Argentina is:

telefone number: *99#

account name: ctigprs

password: ctigprs

Hope it helps.
