I have no idea what to do to fix this and I dont know how to unlock it either because I can't even get passed the connect to itunes screen. If anyone can help that would be awesome.

It sounds like your iphone is locked to a carrier and you are trying to activate with different carrier. is this the case?

and follow this article, if your SIM is from the same provider as the phone is locked to: About swapping the SIM card
If you're trying to use a SIM from a different provider, the phone has to be unlocked first.
Can I unlock it while its stuck on the connect to itunes screen?

The only way to unlock it is to contact the carrier it is locked to. Some carriers will unlock it, others will not.

You don't.
The ONLY place that can unlock an iphone is the carrier to which it is locked. Contact them and see if they offer this.
AT&T does not offer this.
My iphone 4 says to connect to itunes but when I do it says SIM not supported. What do I do?
