Show View Options "Use As Defaults" Not Working

Hello.

I had the exact same issue in Snow Leopard.

I have performed a clean install of Lion, and did not migrate anything or restore any backups... nothing like that. This is a clean slate.

So if I open a folder in finder, I go to View > Show View Options then adjust some of the folder options (i.e. Icon Size, Sort By, etc.) then click "Use As Defaults"... those changes are not applied to any other folder. So if there are several folders within the one folder I applied the View Options to, upon entering that folder, I see that it is using the Lion default View Options rather than the View Options I just configured.

This is a major annoyance. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried using the latest Onxy Lion Beta to Rebuild the .DS_Store files and then tried re-appling my folder options... no luck.

Any help is grealy appreciated.

I don't see how any of this solves the OP's issue, which is my issue as well - there is no way to "Use as Default" and set globally for every folder --- so WTH does "Use as Default" even mean ??? Rediculous bug or lack of feature, very irritating.

Same here. Deleting all ".DS_Store"-Files, restarting Finder and setting a new default folder view did not work for me.

Also, I am wondering if there is a way to always "show all".

I like to have my folders in Icon View - Arrange by Kind - Sort by Name. When doing this, it divides your file types horizontally, with a "Show All" button in the upper right. Is it possible to have it "Show All" by default?

Same problem, but mine goes a step further. Many folders forget the view options I've manually set, even though I've redone them several times.

Michael, mine appear to be doing the same. Every now and then I will back out of a folder and see that the view options have somehow been reset. I have redone them several times myself and this continues to happen.

Hopefully, this will get patched in Lion, as it never did in Snow Leopard.

Same problem here too… If I set my defualt view as 'List view', after some reboot it forgets and sets my defualt view to 'Column view'. It is so nasty irritating… I really hope Apple fix this little issue. It would do a lot even if it's quite small problem… 🙂

This is such an infuriating problem. I also had the exact same issue in Snow Leopard.

In fact, half the reason I upgraded to Lion was in the hope that this would be fixed!

You can highlight the folder you want to customise (Documents, Music, Movies etc.), go to view, show view options, and set the options you want.

Save as Defaults.

You have to go one by one.

It has worked on the parent folder and every sub-folder within it.

It has worked on my Mac anyway! Running Lion.

Only 'All My Files' cannot be changed in view options it seems.

Yes, but....

As soon as I click on "Arrange By Name" it goes to white. After that the options are greyed out.

Yup.

If both 'show item info' and 'show icon preview' are checked 'Use as Defaults' greys out.

Weird.

I think I figured it out...

You can choose "Sort By Name" but _not_ "Arrange By Name."

"ABN" has to be set to None.

If you choose "ABN" the folder goes white and the options gray out. If you choose "SBN" you can change the folder color, etc and options stay open.

Try it and reply back just to verify this...

Nothing seems to be working for me 😟

Tecnically, I should be able to show hidden files and simply copy the .DS_Store file from a folder with the correct view options and paste that file into all the folders I open that havn't been configured yet. This would be quicker than opening up the view options each time and manually configuring. This may end up being my only real solution.
