How to change OS X Lion (10.7) login background

I just installed OS X Lion (10.7). I would like to change the login background on my iMac. The gray linen is too plain and boring.

Does anyone know a sure-fire way to change the login background?

My google search showed how to do this in Snow Leopard, but that process doesn't work with Lion.

Thx,

Bickabah

I finally figured out how to make this change to my login screen. Check out this article for more information.

I used Pixelmator to change (reduce) the resolution of the image I wanted to use and to confirm it was 72 ppi.

I love my new login background, and won't be changing back soon!

How does your new find differ from the procedure that I posted in this thread almost a month ago?

I'm having the same issue and I don't think anyone has answered this. Please help!

My new background image is 1920 x 1200, 72 ppi, and in .png format (all changed through Preview). Dropped the new image in the Resources folder, but the images appears horribly washed out and has a much higher contrast than the original image. Anyone else have this issue or better yet, anyone have a fix?

I found this utility app to do it for you:
Loginox, The Simple Way To Change Your Login Background Image. Use drag & drop on Mac OS X

If your Mac is password protected, the first screen you see after starting up is the login screen. This screen contains the default image of Mac OS X, which can get boring after a while.

Loginox is an application which lets you easily customize the login screen.

Use Loginox to change the login background image or the login logo with a single Drag-and-Drop.

Why navigate through all the folders on your hard disk?Drag a JPG or PNG image from anywhere and drop it into the main window of Loginox. A simple click on the Set new Login image button will change the login background image.

The login logo can be changed in the same way. Choose the tab Login logo and drop a JPG, TIF, PNG or PSD image into the New Login image frame. A simple click on the Set new Login logo button will change the login logo.

For switching back to the Mac OS X default login background image or login logo click on the Reset button in the corresponding tab.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard:

The image size of the default image is 2560 x 1600 and has a ratio 8/5. You can prepare your images with Sizerox to have the right dimension and ratio for your customized login screen.

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion:

The image size of the login screen will be automatically adjusted. If the image ratio does not fit, the image will be cropped in the suitable size. However you can prepare your images with Sizerox to resize them for your customized login screen and logo.

Please note: The contrast of the login screen is set automatically by Mac OS X system. If your image has not enough contrast, the buttons at the bottom of the login screen are not clearly visible. In such cases, you may find another suitable image or edit the image and increase manualy its contrast.

Hello!!! I just lost my custom login background for OS X Lion, due to the update to 10.7.4 I'm not very happy it all. >:~ # It change back to it stupid gray login background. Even I change it back to my custom login background and it still showing the stupid gray login background and not showing my custom login background.

I did the steps that been showing here.

You will find the background file at the following location:

/System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources
and the file is called

NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png

Once I'm done changing my login background. I close evey apps then reboot my mac, and it show my custom login background.

Once you update to OS X Lion 10.7.4, You will lose your custom login background and even if you change it back, it wil still show the stupid gray login background. I'm doing my best to find away to get my custom login background showing again. If any of you out there, all ready find any way to get the custon login background showing. I really would like to have my custom login background showing again then the stupid gray login background. Please share it to us. Thanks
