No, it means that Lion needs 4GB's of drive space, hence storage space on a hard drive. Not the same as RAM (memory).
Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop then click Get Info.
In the Get Info window see: Capacity & Available.
Make sure there's a minimum of 20% free disk space at all times.

that's means take 4gb in your HD but because the installer don't delete till is install you need like 4GB for the installer and another 4GB to install it so like 7/8 gb but when it install the installer delete and you get 4Gb back it takes 4GB in your drive but to do the installation you need 7/8gb.
