iphone configuration utility installation fails

I downloaded the latest iPhone Configuration Utility from the Apple website. I am attempting to install it on a Mac OS X Lion machine, but the installation fails. The installer prompts me to close iTunes during the installation process. I close iTunes, and the installer never continues. I have rebooted the machine, etc. Nothing seems to work. I have never had iPhone Configuration Utility on this machine before. I even created a new user admin account and tried to install it there, but no luck.

I am out of ideas and could use some help.

Thanks!

Mac OS X (10.7)
