Jul 22, 2011 7:19 PM in response to woodmeister50by MBA in Texas,My bet is this only happens with certain HDMI displays. I had a similar issue with the original iPad 2. It wouldn't display on some displays.

Jul 22, 2011 7:43 PM in response to Ratboyby Mac80,Try unplugging the HDMI cable from your computer. Restart the computer, then re-connect HDMI. Worked for me.

Jul 22, 2011 8:18 PM in response to Ratboyby Zbegon,Same issue here, I got "change source resolution" from my LED TV connected via HDMI to HDMI. Called Apple no help really but tried very hard, called Phillips (maker of my TV) we tried to update the firmware for the TV, no luck. I went to Best Buy and bought a Mini Display to HDMI cable and that works every other restart. I even wiped my HD and total system restore to last Time Machine backup, then re-downloaded Lion, still having issues. Good thing the OS wasn't super expensive. Kinda disappointed that I spent 29$ then spent 29$ more for the cable and still do not have my flawless operating condition Mac back. Feels like those times when I was a PC user.

Jul 22, 2011 9:50 PM in response to Ratboyby engbren,Same issue here with my 2010 Mac mini connected to Sony Bravia LCD tv. Have got it booting with mini display port/VGA but this is not an ideal solution. It all used to work flawlessly under snow leopard.

Jul 22, 2011 10:13 PM in response to Ratboyby GregOutlaw,Same problem here with HDMI from mini display port adapter not connecting 2010 Mac Mini to my 82" Mitsubishi. If anyone finds out the fix or hears from Apple directly please post to this forum so we can get this corrected.
Does anyone know the prompts when booting up Lion after initial install? At this point, I'd be happy tonight by figuring out a way to just auto-start iTunes so the two AppleTV's on my other screens would work.
thanks,

Jul 22, 2011 11:06 PM in response to Ratboyby khurstjr,Unfortunately I am having issues with my HDMI connection from a Late 2008 MacBook to a 37" Phillips HD TV. When I connect the two a notice stating that "Format is not Supported" appears on the TV screen. Why did you do this to me Lion, WHY? I was unable to make a presentation because of this fact. Unsatisfactory!

Jul 23, 2011 1:53 AM in response to Ratboyby woodmeister50,For got to mention that my system was set up as
HDMI->Yamaha receiver->Samsung TV.
Still had issue if I connect direct to TV.
From the list I see so far Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Mitsubishi,
and Philips TVs. Doesn't seem to be to be limited to a particular
display.
Also, if you can't get a display to work, how do you apply
an update?
This is such a basic functionality of the 2011 Mac Mini.
How could Apple have not tested this? And since the issue
spans so many different displays, the problem is generic.
This is just really sloppy product development to have such
a basic functionality borked.

Jul 23, 2011 2:18 AM in response to Ratboyby woodmeister50,Every update since 10.6.4 has borked either audio or
video on my Mini in some way shape or form. Its the
only Mac that I have that has had any issues. Maybe they
just don't care about the Mini.
Since I got the Mini, no updates had any adverse effects
on my iMac, now retired Macbook, or my new 2011 MBP 13" i7.
HDMI is a basic functionality of the Mini and obviously wasn't
tested properly with Lion or these issues would not occur.
And what I see sofar, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Philips, and Mitsubishi
TVs affected. Doesn't seem limited to a particular display to me.

Jul 23, 2011 7:54 AM in response to Ratboyby Jarek91,Same problem here. 2010 Mini > Denon AV591 receiver > Samsung HP-S5060 TV. If I turn off the receiver and TV, I get "Not Supported Mode" on my TV when I turn everything back on. This only started after the Lion upgrade. I have to pull the HDMI cable for 10-20 seconds to get a display back...which kind of defeats the purpose of running everything via a remote.

Jul 23, 2011 9:40 AM in response to Ratboyby maxime272,What a good thing, i am not alone in the world with this problem.
Same issue for me, iMac (21,5 / mid 2011), connected in HDMI to a Yamaha receiver and TV 42' Panasonic. Sounds and Picture are working during 4 seconds and black screen. TV does not appear in system preferences.
But perfectly works (picture and sounds) when HDMI is directly connected to the TV.
What i Did:
Re-install lion-> Nok
install lion in a new partition->Nok
Reset PRAM->Nok

Jul 23, 2011 10:43 AM in response to Ratboyby Kevin Canada,I just installed Lion on my 2010 Mini and I've got the same issue as you guys. No picture at all. My TV is a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma and the AV Receiver is a Denon. All input to the TV comes from the receiver. So whatever Apple did to Lion, the Denon receiver does not like it. The model number is Denon AVR-3310CI.
If this won't work, I hope I can get back to Snow Leopard.

Jul 23, 2011 10:45 AM in response to Kevin Canadaby Jarek91,Kevin,
With everything turned on, try pulling the HDMI cable from the mini for about 10 seconds or so and then plug it back up and see if you get a picture. That has been working with mine. Apple still needs to get this fixed...makes me think it's an HDMI handshake thing.
