Q: No Signal on HDMI TV After Lion Upgrade

I just installed Lion on my Mac mini and my TV no longer receives a signal over HDMI. I've tried a bunch of different cobinations of restarting the TV and computer without any luck. Without a display, I can't use Screen Sharing to try chaning any of the prefrences. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks.

The terminal command seems to have solver the problem BUT the resolution and calibration is all wrong, quality display is not acceptable and I believe that it is a temporary fix and still yet to be properly resolved by Apple. My TV is 37" Philips BTW.

Make sure you're using the native resolution for your HDTV. Some TV's are still sold that are actaully 720P rather than 1080P. Many of the Philips TV's are 720P.

You can always try switching to a 720P resolution to see if that helps.

I can report that Venturas' terminal command followed by rebooting/zapping PRAM has worked on my 2010 MacMini/Philips FTV (37PF...)

Gym brown, you'll need access to a screen somewhere or someone else with a mac for screensharing to be able to see what you're doing.

    Good Luck

    Hi Mac80

I have been struggling for the past couple weeks since I purchased my Mac Mini (a few weeks back) to connect to the Samsung B2430 LCD monitor directly via HDMI-HDMI but to no avail i.e. "no connection detected"

Fyi HDMI-DVI works, but I just wanted the HDMI-HDMI instead.

I did exactly what you advised i.e. pull out the HDMI cable from the Mac Mini; power up & power down the Mac Mini; reconnect the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini; power up again... Wooa...lla... for some strange reason & though somewhat "primitive":-)  ... It works. It can now detect my monitor at 1080p. I just shut down and switch it on again to make sure that it is not a fluke, it works!

Fyi I just acquired another Samsung LED 27" monitor SA550 (same problem as above inititially but got it working via the above approach)

Thanks alot Mac80 and really appreciate it!

    All,

After a couple of weeks struggeling and working with an additional screen I have used the commands in terminal as per page 9 of this topic and got my Philips 31PF9830/10 working again in 1080i.

I do have the impression that the resolution is a bit lessbut much better then nothing. Hope that Apple is kind or smart enough to have a proper fix in 10.7.2. However I will not upgrade untill I know for sure that it will work.

Thanks to all people helping to solve this problem !!

    Kind regards,

    Robert

I can report another success with the terminal commands from page 9 combined with a reset of SMC--Thanks Venturas!

After the SMC reset, the HDTV came up set to its native 720p resolution, and I just moved the Underscan slider toward More until the edges of the display fit within the physical screen perfectly.

FYI--the SwitchResX app did not help for my problem--I tried it first because I stumbled on to it prior to finding the terminal commands.

    Good luck!

    -----------------------------------------

Commands (pasted here for your convenience):

    cd /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-410c/

    sudo mv DisplayProductID-0 DisplayProductID-0.old

SMC reset steps I used next (works for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve):

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

    Details:

My secondary display that was giving me fits is the following which I have connected directly to the HDMI out via HDMI cable on a Mid 2010 Mac Mini Server:

Philips 32" TV model # 32PFL3505D/F7 (It showed as Philips FTV in Display Preferences prior to the terminal fix--now it just says Philips)

I also have a 17" Dell E170S connected via Minidisplay port to VGA.

I wonder if you have another brand TV if you need a different VendorID in the first command.  A call to Apple might be in order to find what to insert there.  Hope this helps some others!

Your instructions fixed the interop issue I was having with a new MacBook Pro connected to a Philips 42" Plasma TV.  Thank you very much for posting that!

    Hello there.

Something weird going on here. I've tried to set up a connection between my iMac and Samsung HDTV via HDMI some time ago and it didn't work. Today I thought ah well I'll plug it in and i'll see what happens. Well, it worked! So I did a happy dance, shut both the TV and iMac down and went off to do other stuff. I came back, tried to view my iMac via the TV and it was a black screen. Never got it to work again o_O

I'm running 10.7.1 and tried the terminal commant but this is what I got:

    ----------------------------------

mv: DisplayProductID-0: No such file or directory

    ----------------------------------

Besides that I've powered/unplugged both the TV and the iMac, unplugged the HDMI cable, replugged the HDMI, powered the TV and started it, plugged in the iMac and booted it. No result. Black screen and the Samsung never showed up again at the Pref / Monitor screen. Also, detect screen ofc doesn't work.

    Any idea's/suggestions?

One detail to my previous post:

I got the HMDI cable running alongside a Ethernet cable through a tiny hole in the wall. Could that cause any problems? As beforhand I tested it with the cable crossing the room.

edit: nvm, pulled it across the room again and it didn't work either.

I had the same problem until I booted while resetting the parameter ram. Hold down Coomand+P+R keys while booting and you'll probably be ok.

Tried this suggestion but sadly it did not work for me. Should I unplug everything as well as the hdmi cable from my mac mini (bought in June 2011) before powering down and up again?

This is actually quite a disgrace...

When you get "Video Format Not Supported" or "No Signal" or blank or blue screen just turn off the TV, unplug and plug the TV power cord and turn it on again.

Don't do anything with your mac. It always works for me.

I have a mac mini 2010, osx Lion and Philips 32pfl3404/77.

    Good luck!
