Mar 16, 2012 10:55 AM in response to jocke_nymanby thomasmb,Hey Jocke
The "bogus hdmi high speed cable tip" I posted earlier was given to me by someone @ Yamaha.. I have had this problem for about half a year, and have now chosen to swap the Yamaha for the VSX-921.
I have had many conversations with Yamaha, they don't lead nowhere, especially since the V1067 got a fw update that fixed the issue (at least for a close friend of mine), but they say that they won't do anything about it with the V667 - "it's a known issue" they said...
Gotta love it.. anyway, good luck!

Mar 17, 2012 8:35 PM in response to thomasmbby amcalp,I have been following this thread for some time and while i did originally have the problem it seems to have corrected itself.
I have the following setup :
Mac Min (2010) -> Panasonic LX 53 Receiver -> Samsung TV (+ surround speakers).
The setup works fine with the following exceptions:
a) When turning the monitor off (i.e. just for playing music), the signal drops for a few seconds before picking up. This I can live with
b) If the mac mini screensaver kicks in, the signal drops and I have to wiggle the mouse to get the sound back. This is a bit inconvenient as I like using my Mac Mini as music centre + iPhone or iPod Touch as the remote, and basically I need to set the computer to never go to sleep or power off if I need to play music for a while.

Apr 4, 2012 5:00 PM in response to Ratboyby Matt.W.,Has anyone else had trouble solely with 1080p output? I'm trying to output from my thunderbolt iMac (with Lion 10.7.3) to a Panasonic HDTV. Every resolution works except for 1080p @ 60 hertz (it's fine at 24 hertz). When I try 1080p60, it displays for a few seconds, starts flickering, then my TV says no signal.
I'm connecting my computer directly to my TV; audio works fine.
Is this a Lion issue? Or is it an issue with the cable?

May 11, 2012 1:53 PM in response to Ratboyby AcaVengo,I've read all 20 pages of this thread, tried the SwitchResX solution to no avail, attempted to rename some of the display overrides, but without knowing which one to use and unable to do it to all of them, that did not work either.
Model Name: Mac Mini 5,1
Boot ROM Version: MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
TV1: Vizio VL420M - noHDMI to HDMI, works mini DVI (thunderbolt) to VGA
TV2: Hitachi - no HDMI to HDMI, have not tried mini DVI to VGA
TV3: Samsung LN32B540P8D, good HDMI to HDMI, have not tried mini DVI to VGA
TV4: Vizio VX37L - used to work on HDMI to HDMI, but HDMI is fried on that TV, works w/ mini DVI to VGA
I plan to contact Apple soon.

May 15, 2012 12:21 PM in response to Ratboyby Kenneth E,OK perhaps you all have solved this already BUT i figured i'd send this little tidbit on jusst in case. I had terrible video on my Mac mini and samsung D8000 via HDMI and thought i was just going to have to adjust it as best i could and live with it BUT the video is now PERFECT! To begin with my MBP has always worked fine @ 1080P 60Hz via the DVI/ HDMI cable and plugged into the HDMI port labled HDMI/DVI on the TV... Now for the good part.... All i did was plug the HDMI cable into my Mini and use the same DVI/HDMI port and yes the video was awfull.... Then i went to the Video menue (some menues are a bit different so check your manual) open the menue and go to the section that allows you to change the name of specific inputs. Rename the HDMI/DVI input that you have the Mini plugged into to "PC" and save it.... Your choices for "picture mode" will be limited BUT you will be greeted by absolutley beautifull video with the full array of color, brightness and contrast adjustments none of which should be necessary because if you (like me) messed with these in an attempt to make things useable from the start will need to do a reset on these in order to restore them from where WE messed them up.
That's all there is to it..... simply rename the input to "PC" and the TV does the rest.... while you're at it try renaming the others to match your DVR/PVR and Blue Ray player and watch how many other picture options change on these also! I had actually submitted a repair ticket to Samsung because it didn't appear that it was possible to get acceptable HDMI video out of a mini into ANY HDMI port on a samsung TV (others seem to not have this problem) but had it cancelled after finding this out... Now i couldn't be happier with the picture in all modes and from every source. Just make the name match the type of device and the options change accordingly... I hope this helps EVERYONE with the samsung TVs since it's not anywhere in the documentation that came with them the E-Manual inside the TV itself or on line. Have Fun!

Jun 12, 2012 10:33 AM in response to DJRumpyby ronaldehornsby,My MacBook Pro has suddenly stop communicating with my Philips 3700 via HDMI.
It's worked perfectly fine for the last year and now suddenly nothing.
When I plug into the HDMI, my computer screen does the typical blue screen for a second but doesn't register to the TV. And does not show up in Display preferences.
Now, this computer works with my external Dell monitor just fine.
AND
My older MacBook (non pro) DOES work via HDMI with the TV. The only difference is the cable the connect the HDMI to the 2 mac books (due to the different inputs).
straaaaaange....
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance!

Sep 4, 2012 5:26 PM in response to Ratboyby EricSein,I recently purchased a Philips 50" T.V. with Internet access via their MediaConnect software. After many attempts to view my desktop on my new T.V. I called Philips support. I was told it appears to be a compatibility problem with Mac's new OS. It appears there are issues with mountain lion running philips mediaconnect software. I was told there was another Philips T.V. owner with a Mac running Moutain Lion having the same problem connecting using MediaConnect program on a Mac. Is apple able to help out in this issue? Apparently, Mac users who have not upgraded to Mountain Lion are not having issues running MediaConnect.

Nov 27, 2012 10:59 AM in response to Ratboyby Breadsta,I bought a Mac Mini a couple of months ago. When I originally plugged the computer into my Philips 42" TV, it worked fine. I messed with some resolution and then I got the "format not supported" message. I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM, booting in safe mode, and using air display on my iPad to mirror what the desktop was showing me. I managed to get it to work SOME of the time, but as soon as air display was turned off or the computer was booted up normally, it would go back to the settings that weren't supported. Basically, the mac saved the display settings for the incompatible resolution as the default settings. I called apple support and here is the solution for my problem, which is similar to what many have experienced here:
1. Start computer in safe mode OR on another display.
2. Go to Macintosh HD>Library> Preferences and scan for a file titled "com.apple.windowserver.plist"
3. Take that file, drag to desktop and rename "com.apple.windowserver.plist.old" and make sure the file is no longer in the preferences folder.
4. In the top menu bar, click on the "GO" tab. Once that drop-down menu is up, hold the "option" key on your keyboard and keep holding it. You should see "library" displayed as an option in the GO drop-down menu. Click on library. Once you do, you can release the option key, btw.
5. Once your in GO>Library, find the preferences folder. Open preferrences and find the file named "com.apple.windowserver.D8966756-7809-59DC-87CC-6058F977FE4D.plist" and drag this file to the desktop, rename ".old" and ensure that THIS file is no longer in the folder.
*note, the path you follow to get there, for simplifying this process, is GO+option key>Library>Preferences.
6. Once both of those files are out of their respective folders, you can restart the computer and it should restart like normal and allow you to see the desktop.
This worked for me and I hope it works for everyone else that continues to have problems.

Nov 28, 2012 4:36 PM in response to Ratboyby canettijazz,Forwarding this from MacRumors, so perhaps a the HDMI issue will finally be fixed soon.
The issue seems to be a known one related to the Intel HD 4000 graphics used in the Mac mini, and Intel has now acknowledged the issue in the Mac mini and indicated that a fix is on the way. A timeframe for a fix delivered through Apple is, however, so far unknown.
We are aware of the flickering issue, and there will be a fix provided in the future. The overall flicker issue is also being addressed here;http://communities.intel.com/thread/32932
Your OEM (Apple) will provide the driver with the fix when they are done configuring our driver (that has the fix). An ETA on this is currently unknown.Apple has begun developer seeding of OS X 10.8.3 with an emphasis on graphics drivers, but it seems to be unclear at the present time whether the current beta version of OS X 10.8.3 contains the specific fix for this issue.

Dec 27, 2012 1:53 PM in response to Ratboyby rakitin,Try this:
1. Download http://www.mediafire.com/?fdz29bgsg3zm653
2. Unarchive it
3. In the Finder, go to (using cmd-shift-G) the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/
4. Place the entire directory you unarchived in step 2 (DisplayVendorID-410c) in the directory /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/
5. Reboot
It works for me and fixes miscoloration that appears after a while every now and then when usng the HDMI output of my MBP.

Feb 15, 2013 10:25 AM in response to Kenneth Eby PAnthoney,I just received a brand new Mac Mini and had the HDMI poor quality output problem. I thought I was going to have to wait until 4.8.3 released or buy a different cable (DVI to HDMI with the included dongle), but thanks to this tip I just changed the setting on my Samsung 32" displays to DVI-PC (on the Display itself) and the video instantly correct and now looks perfect.
Thanks to Kenneth for sharing this solution.
