Install Mac OS X Lion.app
I just installed Lion on my Daughters new MBP 15" (Purchased June23/11). So this was a free upgrade, my question is why can't I find the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" in Applications, or anywhere else on the harddrive. ?

Hi Gnarly:
Unfortunately, you won't. Once Lion is installed it deletes the installer app.
The solution is to make a copy of the "install Mac OS X Lion", first BEFORE you run it, and save it some where safe, I recommend burning a copy to DVD.
You may be able to re-download it for free.

I found this tip for those of us who downloaded OS X Lion and installed it. I'm currently re-downloading it.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion,
Open App Store
Press and hold the "Option" key while you click the "Purchases" tab.
The button to the right of the Mac OS X Lion item should change to "Install" (ungreyed).
Click "Install" to start the download.
Well, THAT got me a copy of the install file but this is silly. Apple should no delete the installer, I wanted to make a bootable DVD. ****, need to redownload.
So thanks for the hint, this works.
Thanks all for the info. I shall do as suggested as I have a second MPB to update (other daughter) and I will save the installer app. somewhere safe.
I understand your frustration with this but look at it this way - had Apple left the installer there would be some other people complaining that it is taking too much space on their hard drive 🙂
