Lion preview signature is wrong orientation

I had the same thing, but only with one PDF file, a scan that someone had emailed me. It worked correctly in other PDFs.

I ended up opening the one that didn't work, exporting it to the desktop and re-opening it and it worked. Only thing I could think of is maybe Preview thought the PDF was landscape when it was actually portrait, and exporting the file from Preview reset that. Don't know.

Would definitely be nice to have some handles or at least be able to rotate it in 90 degree increments.

So, the same thing happened to me, with an email attachment in PDF. I opened it, duplicated it, and saved it to my hard drive, then the signature went in with the right orientation. Strange.

I've been having the exact same issue. I've noticed that if I get a PDF with the wrong orientation, I can put my signature on it "sideways" and it works just fine. But if I rotate the image to be the right side up and then try to add the signature, the signature still comes out sidways even though the document is now right side up. Quitting preview and reopening usually does the trick for me. Definitely a bug in Preview though.

same fix worked as for chippat - rotated the PDF, closed the file, re-opened the file, then added signature, and the orientation was correct. Seems like this would be an easy bug to fix, Apple.

I tried this solution. However, I had already entered some text (letter grades) on the pdf and when I reopened it in the original rotation the text that I had entered was now rotated 90 degrees.

I'm seeing the this issue as well.

Saving it out and re-opening it worked for me.

Same problem here and one of the work arounds above works. After receiving the pdf in a gmail attachment, I duplicated it to the desktop and then the signature would have the correct orientation.

Same problem in Mountain Lion.

Closing preview, copying the file and open it again solve the problem.

In relation to the text being saved sideways on a PDF, my Preview has just started to do this today. I found that if I opened the PDF in Preview and the text was sideways, just double click on the text box and it rights itself. Then save the PDF again. Voila!

I too have found this a problem and have FOUND THE SOLUTION!

You use File/Print (or CMD+P) and then change the orientation of the print page to the correct orientation -- (you'll notice that Lion was trying to be super-clever by auto-rotating for printing which is why everything got confused). When you have selected the correct orientation then press CANCEL (i.e. don't print it). This orientation is then used to insert stuff on the Preview page.

Now Preview lets you insert the signature the correct orientation in the document.
