I have spent hours and getting really *&^%ed that i cannot print wirelessly, yes i have deleted the driver and updated to the latest, yet my printer alwasy shows offline will never connect.

I HAVE reset network setting on my printer, and yes it works due to the fact i can use it to print of my windows desktop, i have nver had a problem until the installation of LION

The other problem I'm also now having is i cant access my files from my windows pc like i use to be able to do, the windows can reconside it and when i try and open it like i use to i add in the username and password yet now it does nothing, recons theres an unknown username or worng password

how could this be? i havent changed anything, the usernames and passwords are still there on my mac

There is every chance that the driver for your printer is not compatible with Lion. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have, someone may have some experience and be able to offer you some advice.

Thanks for replying.

A suggestion to try if you have not done so already.

Connect the Mac directly to the printer via USB. This will create a new (USB) printer in Print & Fax. If this USB printer works okay at least you know the driver is compatible.

So knowing the driver is okay, you can concentrate on the network connection. Printer offline messages are sometimes the result of unsupported print protocols being used. If the printer supports Bonjour, then the usual method to add the printer is via the Default view of Add Printer browser. But if the printer also supports other print protocols, such as LPD or HP Jetdirect-Socket (known as Standard TCP/IP Port 9100 on Windows) then you could try connecting with the alternate protocol.

Also, if the Brother supports the PCL or Postscript printer languages, you could try using one of these built-in printer drivers instead of the Brother driver to see if that lets you print.

Having the same issue. I'm using HP Color LaserJet 3600n via Airport Express and HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Plugged the 6500 directly into USB and works. Cannot get it to work otherwise.

Not so savvy that I know how to work in the other protocols mentioned, but savvy enough to follow directions. Any advice?

This happens a LOT to me, too. In my case, the fix was as easy as unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable, so my Mac "finds" the printer and puts it online again. Een reconencting to the very same USB port immediate does the trick.

The only Lion problem I've had is that Lion refuses my previous printer drivers, and its default "generic" printer drivers don't do a thing. So post-Lion, my laser printer is now a brick.

why not just install the printer software / driver on your pc instead of sharing through the mac book pro? Is your mac's system preferences for sharing checkedmarked? Do you have bonjour on your windows computer? http://support.apple.com/kb/dl999 ? Are you using a wired or wireless printer? what type of network do you have? Have you tried connecting the printer using a wired connection to see if that works?

same "printer offline" problems here. I have installed Lion on only one of the macs on my wireless network (a mac mini). Now none of my computers (mac book, mac book pro, imac) will print to my Canon Pixma 700 printer without having to turn off and on the airport extreme each time. When I try to print from any of these networked computers, I get a "Printer Offline" message until I turn off my Airport Extreme, when I turn it back on, it prints fine (until the next attempt). What gives?

OS LION has major problems with connecting via wireless to HP printers.

I've been on the phone with a high level HP tech person who said that Apple released Lion without giving the printer manufacturers a chance to see the code and develop compatible drivers. Apple told the manufacturers that the new code would not affect printing, but as everyone on this thread knows, that is not correct.

Apparently, HP and the other printer manufacturers are working to create new drivers that will work with OS Lion. In the meantime, the best workaround is to print using a USB cable. New drivers should be coming out with a week or so.

This is the usual lame Apple arrogance on display. Whatever their petty insider reasons for withholding cooperation with the printer makers, the ones who suffer the most are the Apple users.
