Mac Pro
Can't speak for your "environment" or useage.
I myself just recently sold my pristine looking 2006 Mac Pro (no scratches, dents or anything) to get a new one.
The buyer was very pleased with it.
Yes the case will scratch of it comes in contact with harder surfaces like the sides of the tower tray that hangs under my desk. Also a gentle press on the the screen panels will show you that they will dent easily. My guess is that a Mac Pro will go a long time, take a lot of abuse and still work great even though it's scratched and dented.
It's made of some kind of (approx. 1/8" thick) anodized aluminum. I don't know the grade of aluminum used. It's a pretty solid chassis. If you are near an apple store or some place that has them on display look for yourself.
I don't have any scratches yet on my Macbook Pro 2011, but I dropped my cell phone on it when it was closed and now there are two dents under the glowing apple where one corner of the phone hit, then the other.
Of course, all I felt was rage, then stupidity.
Didn't think it would dent so easily.
