"Remove all website data," cookies, and extension preferences

Safari 5.1 Lion

Can someone please confirm the following (very unfortunate) behavior?

1) Check the option "Block cookies from 3rd parties and advertisers"

2) Visit any major site (CNN, CNET, etc.)

3) 3rd party cookies and tracking data is still acquired from doubleclick, etc. despite step #1

In other words, Safari 5.1 does not seem to be blocking third party cookies. I have seen other threads documenting this. What's worse is that "removing all website data" (Preferences | Privacy tab) *also* deletes your extension preferences. ***?

Chrome and Firefox separate "local data" (extension prefs and site offline storage) from cookie/tracking data. Safari is no longer an option to me until this is fixed.

I can not delete the website data on my iPhone 6 I have tried the advanced setting does not work I have tried deleting each one that does not work I have do not track enabled I search in private mode still some of the sites show up in safari I have updated to 10.3.3 as requested it works maybe twice and then goes back to the website data being stored on my phone. I do not want this data on my iPhone the most recent update I was sent was 10.3.3 I am ready to just shut my iPhone down and not use it. This should have been corrected by Apple the know about the problem.

This is what bugs me! A solution would be a 'Favourites' checkmark for website data I want to keep.

I have been trying to figure this out since downloading Lion and using Safari 5.1. It is very frustrating, and I am glad to know I am not alone. I also will just start using Chrome... I will check Safari to see if removing selected cookies has been allowed. I liked the old Safari for that reason.

I have just clicked "Clear All Website Data" because there were over 400 sites listed that had cached cookies, etc. I cleared all data, and immediately, there were 14 websites that had info. stored. I just set the Storage Database to 'zero' and immediately there were 5 websites that stored web information.

I guess that I won't be using Safari any time soon.

Jim,

What you're describing is cookies/local data stored by the automatic loading of pages in Safari's Top Sites. Even if you don't visit those pages, Safari loads their cookies and caches their page data to load them faster should you decide to ever visit them. Lame.

I, too, am perplexed by this change. Then again, I've been perplexed by most of the changes Apple has made to products/os in the last few years. I'm thinking that I may not only change browsers, but hardware/software also. It's issues like this that make me wonder if anyone on the Apple design team actually uses any of their products, or maybe they think we are all just too ignorant to be able to use a computer.

Making things simple to use shouldn't equate to removing advanced functionality, but it seems that's what Apple believes it to be.

Really disgusted now.

Problem persists with the Safari 5.1.1 and 10.7.2 updates. Some users are reporting the problem being fixed with the 2011-006 (Snow Leopard) security update under 10.6.8. I submitted another bug report. Sigh...

Are there no thrid party addon which can delete cookies upon exiting Safari? As far as I am concerned all these cookies tracking my every move is a serious sercurity risk and blocking all cookies stops websites working.

Silly Apple for not thinking about this kind of thing!
