webdav filesharing doesn't work

Hello,

i have created a directory "webdav" on a disk and created an entry under "filesharing" in the server app. The permissions are owner "www" and the group is "staff" (i also tried as owner the user etc.) "

If i go to "https://server/webdav" i get a login mask. I provide my credentials and afterwards i get this:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /webdav/ on this server.

For a furter analysis i set the apache loglevel to "info". This is what i get:

mod_digest_apple: Successfully authenticated user "xx" for realm "UserWebDAV Gateway" for URI "/webdav/" resp->uri "/webdav/" from the directory.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mac OS X (10.7)

What do you mean guys you go to "https://server/webdav" ?

You are supposed to open it with a webdavcleint (ie FInder, Transmit, Forklift etc.)

Safari is not a webdav client (the message 'Forbidden' in Safari is normal)

Try Cmd-K in the Finder and type https://youserver.com/webdav

It'll ask for you user/pass and then mount the drive ala iDisk...

Hope this clear things out and helps you out guys!

Ok mate! You are the one asking the question and I am trying to help because you seem to be a bit of a novice regarding the webdav protocol...

Let me rephrase my answer: Safari IS NOT A WEBDAV CLIENT

I don't know about Snow leopard server, it may have bundled a webview specific to browsers trying to access the webdav resource

In any case in Lion the webdav resource is supposed to behave like mobileMe's iDisk, ie pure webdav disk.

You can mount it as a webdav resource on OSX, IOS and they'll treat it as a webdav resource.

Now can I ask what were you aiming at by opening it in safari ?

How would you copy the files to your webdav "disk" ? What kind of "access" did you have with SL Server...

If what you had in SL server was a list view of the files folders, you can achieve the same by sharing your Home folder via the webservice...

You are welcome.

What you want to achieve (I guess user folder accessible via pure web) is possible.

You could even install some kind of filemanager php webapp to copy/upload pages from Safari in a pure html style...

Now to automate it for every user profile is a bit more difficult but it's possible...

Remember this is a BSD/Unix so absically 99% of things you can do on a *BSD or GNU/Linux server, you can do on OSX Server (ie Lion)

It's a simple apache & php webapp config... Google around (not specific to osx by the way)

I agree with you, lost of things in Lion Server seem unfinished/unpolished...

Everyone feels the same about Lion around these forums and review websites, Lion SERVER has been rushed for released...

Glad I could help!

Good Response!!, im stuck on this since this morning, you response solve for me this issue!!

Maybe the confusion is because always we configure the webdav from the config files.... in fact in OSX Lion (Not Server) from "web sharing" works with the httpd.conf / httpd-dav.conf files... if you setup this in Lion (Not Server) you can connect from Safari.app to show you the files on the Alias.... In server is different.

So... Thank you so much my friend!
