    Hey gekkonaut,

    My case number is:

236812169 - Screen going black & flickering when connect to MacMini

I agree that they need to fix it or replace my screen.

Thanks - mine is  240013604 if you want to reference it!

The issue is so blatently obvious and affecting a huge number of people - can't believe it's still not in their support databases.

    Hey guys ...

I have had the same issue with my 24" Cinema Display since I purchased the Mac Mini recently.  Last weekend I made an appointment for the Genius Bar and took my equipment into Apple at the Mall of America. We setup the equipment and immediately they saw the constant flicker issue.  They tried several resolutions.  Booting into Snow Leopard vs Lion.  Wired network vs wireless network.  Non bluetooth keyboard/mouse.  It continued to flicker without fail.  They decided to try a 27" Cinema Display.  It worked.  It continues to work.  I left Apple with a new 27" Cinema Display.  They did an even swap with the 24" Cinema Display.  It is odd considering it is the exact same technology.  I was impressed with their support on this issue.  They are going to escalate this to engineering.  Hopefully it will be resolved thru a firmware or other update.

If swapping my 24" inches display could work, and they do it for free, I would be delighted. This would also be a nice compensation for all the troubles I have gone through so far!

In the meantime, I am still waiting to hear from the support to which I provided my data logs.

    Hi Guys,

Same issue here ! On-Call support had no clue.

I have Mac Mini 2011 with i7 and Radeon. It is flickering a lot !

It is really anoying, almost every 10 seconds.

Sometimes the display is completely mixed up for few seconds.

When i use my non-thunderbolt macbookl pro it is not doing that.

Maybe i will bring it to apple store.

    Hey Thomas,

Was your 24" Cinema Display still on warranty or AppleCare? I'm just curious, as I'm going into the Genius bar Saturday wiht this same problem - but my 24" is a few months off warranty (didn't get applecare).

I'm just trying to set my expectations.... if I should expect to be walking out with a new 27" because everyone else is

My 24" Cinema Display was under no warranty or Apple Care.  I have had it for awhile.  Now remember,  they replaced my 24" with a 27" Cinema Display with the mini display port.  Not the thunderbolt port.

Something more than firmware is going on.  I have one 24" that works just fine attached to my 2011 mini 2.5.  I have a second 24" that flickers even though a Gefen dvi-mdp adapter.  Attached to a MacPro works fine.  Both have the latest firmware.

I bought the following setup a few days ago (both machines are running Lion 10.7.1). The MacMini is attached directly to an Apple Cinema Display 24" using Thunderbolt/MiniDisplayPort. The problems are exactly the same as described above.

    MacMini 2,5 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256MB

    MacBook Air 13,3", 1,7 Ghz i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel HD 3000

The display works absolutely fine being attached to the MacBook Air. I also read in a German forum that in some cases attaching the display to a single power socket instead of a multiple power socket fixes the problem. I tried it and it worked for a few days but one hour ago the problem occured again. I also changed the MacMini in an AppleStore but it didn't help.

I finally took my ACD 24" to the apple store, as soon as they connected it to a mini with thunderbolt the problems started. They looked for firmware updates an other things but ended replacing my 24" with a brand new 27" (not the thunderbolt model, they don't have it in the stores yet).

My beautiful ACD 27" continues to work with no flicker issues.  I am happy.  Glad to see Apple took care of you also DallasGabe.

I brought my Mac Mini 2011 to Apple store in Montreal with the 24 display and they replied i need to wait for the firmware !!!

I think going back and ask for a new 27 in screen

I discovered this thread _after_ buying a 24" LED Display.

I will get it tonight and will probably clock in with a "me too" post.

Crossing fingers for prompt firmware update.

Don't hold your breath.  This firmware update has been "coming soon" since February. I'm having doubts it will ever come out - if it's been this long in beta testing (if it even is), it's likely there are some issues with it preventing release.

If they're not letting you in the beta program (which every apple employee is telling me doesn't exist), best to take your gear into apple and get stuff swapped out.

Thanks for the info, even if bad projections. Apple have indeed managed to ignore quite bold things in the past, I guess we'll have to harass them..
