Is it safe to use CleanMyMac program?

You may see this from someone else, but at an AppleStore, one of the "geniuses" gave me a demo version each of Malwarebytes and DetectX. These are all you need. Run both of these, then run "First Aid" from your Utilities and restart holding down P, R, Alt and Command keys. It's called "zapping the P-RAM." Don't ever bother with MacKeeper or any of the others.

Almost all of these cleanup apps are totally worthless, and some of them are actually dangerous...nothing more than malware or scams. None are actually needed using OS X. Read here & use at your own risk:

The best way to remove a program is via the installer or the developers instructions, not some utility that searches by name and just deletes everything, that's not a good method. If this program does this, then I wouldn't use it for this purpose.

OnyX is another great cleaning program, different and free, but it's more of a troubleshooting program and cache cleaner. Very safe.

Perhaps you should explain why your considering this program? Are you having some sort of issue? 🙂

I use CleanMyMac and I have had no issues yet. It has cleaned more than 100 gigs of trash files. I too was in doubt when I was about to purchase, but it turned out to be great.

wjosten has said it all. From my point of view being on these forums for a number of years the posts about mucked up systems caused by third party "cleaners" can fill a book. There is really nothing to clean.

The one feature of this application that makes it worthwhile to me is the ability to clear out all the languages that are not used or needed.

There are other ways to do that without using third party muck ups.

Doing that can damage applications, so that they won't be able to update or have other problems. And it doesn't save you much hard drive space. On a modern hard drive, those languages take up a pretty inconsequential amount of space. There's just no good reason to take that risk.

Hi Kaweesha, The CleanMyMac is not the same as a registry cleaner in Windows, it cleans out caches. Never think "windows" when using mac. The mac takes care of itself: it cleans itself on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, cleaning out caches manually is normally not necessary and slows down the computer (because empty caches can not be read). I would like to add, that you should not add antivirus apps or antimalware apps, because they do nothing for you and can wreck your system. Imagine all the time you save by not having to take care of your system like in windows!

Gary, take Thomas' advice seriously, do not remove languages that "you do not need".

I've been bitten by that sort of thing myself. Somehow, these new forums seem more likely to cause this sort of issue... not sure exactly why. I've gotten in the habit of checking the dates before responding.
