Since my update on Lion 10.7 I have a Problem with the login.
The loginscreen appears,
For a few seconds the cursor is blinking in the passwordfield.
Then the screen freezes and I get the beach ball.
At least I get a kernelpanic.
If I am quick enough typing my password I can start my macbook.
It also works if I switch to automatic login.
anyone an Idea

I've had a similar issue. Except I don't login to my Mac each time I start it up after shut down. My MacBook Pro (Late 2009 model) has frozen up twice in two days after powering it up from shut down now that Lion is installed. I have to hold down the power button to get it to go off and then when I turn it back on again it starts up fine. I'm not sure why this would be... HELP!
Ok, try performing a safe mode
- restart the computer while holding the shift button. Replicate the issue
Boot to the recovery HD and run maintenance task
- restart the computer while holding Command + R. Then go for disk utility > repair disk and permissions. Test the login screen again
While performing safe mode the login works!
Repaired Disc and Permission (Disc was O.K.)
Same issue!
Ok so if in safe mode everything worked then you might be having issue with a 3rd party application(possible)
delete everything in loging items
Accounts preferences > Login items
/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/Cache
/Libary/LaunchAgents
/Library/StartupItems
~/Library/LaunchAgents
~/Library/Cache
Do the above while logged in safe mode.
Remember that the user folder is now hidden in Lion. You have to hold option key then click Go on the menu bar to see it
I was able to solve my problem by deleting all of my LogIn items and weeding out extra HP printer files that were installed on my machine during the Lion upgrade. I had a similar issue to this in 2010 and had notes from when I called AppleCare to troubleshoot. Once I deleted the necessary files and shut down and powered up, everything started up fine. So, maybe if any of you have an older HP printer this could be causing the issue.
yep i suspect that. Since safe mode works, the above steps I recommended would further narrow down the issue we're getting. obviously the OP needs to follow them first and post back with the results
I have deleted all the startup items in my account,
I have deleted the mentioned files in /LIbrary and ~/Library
same issue!
I have created a second account
This worked for one login!?
Now I have again about 5 Seconds to enter my password on both accounts!
Ok so on the login screen what exactly happens?does it give you the password field at least?be more specific

are you using displaylink?
what peripherals are connected to your mac?
I do not use displaylink, and there are no peripherals connected to my MBP.
Go for your console logs and paste here maybe we can find something there
finally found the solution.

if I uncheck "automatic changing of videomodes" the login works!?
Seems to be a bug in Lion.
