The Back Up to Disc option is gone in iTunes 10.4. So how do I Back Up my music now?

Select a Playlist then click File / Burn Playlist to Disc

I have the same problem. Carolyn Samit - the problem is that the option to Burn Playlist to Disc is gone. The option to back up is just no longer there.  Um, Apple what's up?  This isn't a good idea. We need to be able to back up our purchases.

I guess if we buy the upcoming $25 iCloud service, we won't need to back up??

Yeah Right, I won't be stepping on that Train. I'll just copy my iTunes Folder to my External Hard Drive. I do believe that your correct and that is the reason for the option being removed. Thanks to everyone for your posts.

Yep it looks like backup to disc has been removed to make way for using iCloud as the backup for your library. Given that opting to use iCloud for your non-store purchases will produce revenue for Apple I wouldn't expect the backup to disc feature to be restored any time soon.

Fortunately there is a better way. I use SyncToy to clone the changes in my library to a portable drive. Carbon Copy Cloner would seem to be the Mac equivalent (assuming you don't already have Time Machine sorting it out for you). Much easier than swapping out piles of discs.

You need to select a playlist first then the option Burn playlist to CD will be there.

Chris CA - the back up option is gone.  I can still burn a playlist to a CD but I want to back up my iTunes purchases... as recommended....

    Okay.

I was responding to your post -> "the problem is that the option to Burn Playlist to Disc is gone."

PLease Apple..just bring the "back up to disc" option. It is so much easier and alot of people cant afford a 25.00 cloud service that is being thrown around. Give us convienence!

K - I have a playlist just for the back up function as I figured it out my self that far. I select burn playlist to disk>data disk. It will act just like back up to disk would do but after the first to third disk it just stopps. It will spit out the newly made back up (it even titles it right), prompts to load a blank disk, only in stead of a continue option it will just quit or it will quit and the finder prompt window stating " you have just loaded a blank disk" eject/ignore/cancel. hep meh

    No it won't.

Backup to disc includes all items (artwork, library files, ratings, etc.).

Burn a playlist simply includes teh song files.

Just wanted to add a comment: The back up to disc feature was great, esp when could add items that were new or changed since last back up. and as a senior and not really tech savy, I am not going to add the icloud whatever that is, sometimes great things can improve until they become to complicated. Please return the back up option f. thank you.
