Privacy tab in safari 5.1 preferences is empty.
This is a screen shot of what I see when I open the privacy tab in safari preferences. Any reasons for this? Help!!!
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
Yes, Dr. Bob's workaround worked for me as well. But I'm still not satiesfied with this ...
Thanks anyway.
I found that I was able to correct this on my Lion based Mac by running a "Disk Repair" on my Boot disk. I'm no longer having to use a work around and everything has been fine for nearly 24 hours.
Thanks, Dr. Bob!
I now have the privacy settings restored, but cannot view extensions. Between the two, I'd rather have the privacy settings.
This whole workaround is a real pain in the patoot - These are Macs, fer cryin' outloud!
Dr. Bob's workaround did not work for me.
Also, I'm wondering if this problem is related to my new "Autofill" problem. Safari no longer Autofills blank forms. Instead, I get an little pop up window that says Autofill and shows an Addressbook card icon. When I hit "return" or "tab" (which used to Autofill the form), nothing happens. Also, that Autofill icon does not disappear (blocking the webpage I'm trying to read) and sometimes does not disappear even when I progress to a new webpage.
Has anyone else had this problem?
My disk repair has acted wonky ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard in Feb.
@ Todd, re Autofill (if I already submitted, I apologize): YES! I've not only had the same problems you describe, but I've also had Autofill fill in the wrong boxes. Then I've had to go back & do it manually anyway.
This fixed it and a short story
Blank Privacy, Extensions Window in Prefs. in Safari 5.5 running OS X 10.6.8
Im running 10.6.8 and Safari 5.5 I had the problem of a blank Privacy window thus went about fixing it and it finally worked. The problem is with elements in the Library.
This what I went through to fix which may short cut your journey. =-)
1. Firstly - I downloaded and re installed 5.1 - This did not work
2. Then - I spoke with apple and was recomended to download and install
- Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 - This did not work
3. Restart and launch safari - ( When launched safari was the 5.05 version? interesting)
4. New issue - the header bar to type in URL's was missing and so was the google search and could not be fixed with customize tool bar. Privacy window appeared however Extensions window was now blank.
5. Update to Safari 5.5 - restart and launch safari ( same as original problem blank privacy window )
6. Call apple - They recomend this as the solution.
Go to - HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins - & remove all but the following
(meaning leave this list in there)
Note : I made a folder on the desktop so later I could add the plugins back one by one and find the broken one
Flash Player.plugin
flashplayer.xpt
iPhotoPhotocast.plugin
JavaPlugin2_NPAPI.plugin
JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
Quartz Composer.webplugin
QuickTime Plugin.plugin
Then go to - HD > Library > ScriptingAdditions & remove everything
Restart your computer - Launch safari 5.5 - Problem solved safari 5.5 on OS X 10.6.8 all windows appear and
Prefrences back in order, access to cookies and extensions window completely visible. Hope it helps.
It worked! Thanks!
I think my problem has to do with Shockwave - it's the only plug-in that had a wonky-looking icon.
I got a little nervous when a window popped up asking for my password before I was able to remove the contents of the Scripting Additions (there was only one icon in there, btw).

It worked fine! Thanks!!!!🙂
Note to self: reinstalled Shockwave, went into Internet Plug-Ins, & finally have a normal-looking icon. Now on to Disk Utility to see if that will finally work normally again.
Thanks SoundFoundation! After checking each file, the one causing my problem was SIMBL.osax (Scripting Additions).
I found that quiting Safari with the Extensions tab as the last thing open gave me my Privacy cookies with the next opening of Safari but no Extensions. If I reverse the process I get Extensions but blank Privacy cookies. I tried going to the Apple Genius bar and that was no help - they had no clue.
Thank you Soundfoundation- this worked perfectly - Really appreciate your post!
This one worked for me too!
It worked perfect for me! Thanx a lot!!! Privacy tab is up and running again!! Blessings!
