Pinch/zoom doesn't work within mail

Experiencing same issue, maybe just an oversight on my part? Reading anything on my 27" iMac is laborious for someone with great vision, let alone anyone with less than perfect vision. Hoping I can resolve. Between this potential issue and not being able to manipulate font size in the mailing list etc., kind of stuck checking my mail on iPad or web client.

Yes, the feature no longer works in Lion, very frustrating as it was so incredibly easy and useful. I was hoping they would make it work when composing messages as well, as that was the only place it wasn't functional in Snow Leopard. Instead it's gone entirely.

Although note that the "Select OS" dropdown menu hasn't had Lion added to it yet...

I was experiencing the same problem and just got off the phone with someone form Apple Care. Apparently the removed the pinch and zoom feature from Mail. The Tech helped with with another way of zooming in Mail. If you go to up to View and scroll down and select Customize Tool Bar a small window opens up with icon buttuns you can drag up to your tool bar. If you look down to around the middle next to search there are two buttons, one that reads "smaller" and another that reads "bigger". Drag these buttons to your tool bar and when you press the button labled "bigger" the message will increase in size. The more you press the "bigger" button the larger the message gets. Not as great as using pinch and zoom but it works.

That's really useful, thanks for the tip! The more cumbersome command+ and command- also zoom the way the pinch used to in both Mail and Safari. Seems crazy to remove something so useful, surely they could add back an option to make the trackpad work that way (suggested name: "classic pinch and zoom").

Agreed, I hate the loss of this feature. And another one - in mid-reply one cannot move the reply window out of the way to see the original message. This is a pain when the original message had attachments, which are rendered utterly invisible unless one cancels email message (save reply) then looks at mail inbox again, then goes to drafts, then restarts emailing. Ho hum, I hope this crippling of useful features stops.

As a postscript to my last post - the not being able to move reply window out of the way or otherwise use mail in mid-reply issue ONLY applies when mail is being used full-screen. In old-fashioned window mode one can still get around. I happen to like full-screen so I hope the multitasking ability joins mail's capabilities in full-screen soon.
